;D

A great example there of Larry and Freddy and the natural gains achieved under the Iron Guru Vince. Why they tried steroids later on is a mystery.

Slik, there is a guy colorizing many famous old-time bodybuilding photos.
Funk's got a great thread featuring many of those pictures on the History board. You should check it out!

Ask yourself this question. Why would Vince give his life to unveiling the secrets of 4 sides to a muscle training and glandular supplementation and then allow drug taking bodybuilders to enter his gym ?   A gym so adorned by his own images as to be a veritable shrine to the outcome of scientific training and nutrition pre 1960.

If he let steroid users train at his gym would that not make the whole Vince Gironda mystique and legend nothing but smoke and mirrors?

I am fed up with the disrespect shown to Vince on here.

You are delusional...I would bet that Vince was on drugs himself....Haven't you learned that bodybuilders are compulsive liars? and I've been in Vince's Gym, back in 1975.

Sounds like you are senile if you think for one moment that Vince was on drugs or trained drug users.
I'm guessing Vince threw you out of his gym and you have been bitter ever since. You obviously know nothing about what went on in the 1970's in California.

what I said is true, to say anything else is to disrespect Vince's memory.
All you young pups think you cant build muscle without drugs but Vince proved this wrong with Mohamed and Larry.

Haha even though you're trolling Mohamed admitted to using steroids and diuretics back when Vince was training him.

What does it even matter.  Vince is irrelevant today.  The sport has moved on.  His physique was skinny and sucked.  By 1980 he was irrelevant except as a crank.  And if he was going to have a natural only gym, it would be filled with people who couldn't win a local show today.

I remember Vince got Mohamed into shape drug free for the NY night of the champions around 1982 and then matched him pose for pose from the audience in a bizarre vodka fuelled performance complete with fringed cowboy jacket.

One things for sure, Vince got Mohammed into the best drug free condition of anyone at that time.

Actually you are correct in Mohammed's "claim" to be drug free during the NY NOC. He admits to using steroids before and after that and for the 83 Olympia. He also admits to using diuretics. It's safe to say that his mass was built through years of training and drug use.

Vince Gironda was by all accounts arrogant.cocky and down right an asshole. I never got the chance to speak to him but Bob Kennedy. Bob did say he never understood his moods. Also said maybe because he never won a titel. This he said but also he explained why Gironda hated squats and Flat Benches. Gironda was not wrong in his theory in chest training. legs...i disagree somewhat

Never met him or saw him on vid.
From the pictures he comes off as a huge ego maniac which started looking very sick in later years. On the other hand, maybe, he quickly cut through all the bullshit and delivered some good insight... I do not know.
Btw, the fake weights are retarded.

That old dude doesn't know what he's talking about. Larry took steroids after he left Vince's and used them for his comeback in 1979 but without Vince's techniques he didn't make it. As for being a physical wreck like the old man is implying, well Larry looked great up to the last year or two before he died. That old black guy looks like he's never seen a weight in his life.

i think he saw a few , he used to train with tom sansone till leroy almost ripped his foot off in a motorcycle accident..... sansone early death was blamed on steroid abuse.... whether it was or not is debatable.

Funk I think you will find that the picture of the black guy you posted is a young Sergio Oliva when he had hair. It's certainly not the old rambling guy in that video.
