The History of He-Man and the making of Masters of the Universe
« on: October 06, 2015, 06:28:03 PM »
Interesting longread on the background of the toy and film. Some of this stuff is common knowledge, but some good insight into why the film was so... questionable. Dolph barely knew English and the director was sort of stuck with him, so that's one of the reasons He-Man is a practically a side character. The film was produced by the notorious Cannon Films and the company was bankrupt by the time the movie debuted.

It was barely related to the cartoon lol. The article is interesting. The director goes into why they made certain production decisions. Like the budget was too low to have an Orko character or to set it on Eternia, so most of it takes place on Earth, with the exception of the first and last scenes.

I was really into the cartoon series as a kid so when this came out I was like "Cool, but WTF?"

I just watched it on netflix the other day.  Gwildor fucking sucked and was so fucking annoying.  Oh yeah, and if you ever watch it again count how many times they say his name.  It's insane.

I saw that it was added to netflix recently and was considering giving it a rewatch. I distinctly remember He-Man not seeming to be very strong in the movie, and when I was a kid, I was sort of confused about whether or not it was an actual He-Man movie or if they had made the movie first and then worked out all of the details for the cartoon series. I actually don't remember it being released in theaters, I only ever saw it on cable.

We saw in the theater about five nights in a row - we thought it was awesomely good/bad. 'Course we were stoned out of our gourds. Good times.

The Masters were equipped with the perfect legs for squatting - HeMan, as legend has it, squatted in the high Then-Thousands.
Btw, Skeletor was more of a leg extension dude so he was punished and had to play the bad guy.

That He-Man doll looks exactly like Mike O'Hearn except he looks closer to 230 than 229 lbs.

TWO-Bad, due to being two individuals you silly goose.

Before they merged they were Tuvar and Baddrah.

Baddrah and Tuvar

But yes, he was the widest, wider than both Heath and Keith Richards for sure

I think we all were impressed and inspired by their physiques back in 1981-1983 since we never had seen anything like it before.

Not even Big Jim-figures had these proportions and definition.
