Who's the next big thing in the IFBB?
« on: October 08, 2015, 09:26:07 AM »
Phil is maybe 2-3 years from being done.  He is showing serious signs now.  Who is the next Mr. O in waiting?  Cutler was being praised as the next one when Ronnie was dominating and when Cutler started winning they started to praise Heath.  Who is the next in line?  I'm not seeing or reading anything about the next guy to go on a Mr. O run.  Honestly.  I'm sick of guys winning it for a bunch of years in a row.  Would be better to have a different winner every year or 2.  I just don't see anyone in the ranks right now that can stand in history next to the Arnolds, Dorians, Ronnies, Jays or even Heaths.

There is no one really. Cedric and Rhoden came close. And Dex just may win it. People talk about mini wolf, but I don't see it. And Dallas McCarver already has a severe case of diastasis recti, and a gut. He will get worse.

I think Big Ramy has the potential to do it if not in 2016...then 2017

People really seem to like him and he is very humble and gracious.  He would be a breath of fresh air after Phil.

If not Big Ramy then I think Dallas MacCarver has a great shot.

If I had my way it would be people like: Cedric, Bonac, or Rhoden.  I think they look great and don't look poofy.

Rhoden is too old but his look and cedric's look need to be rewarded. Give bonac better placings now before he grows a gut cos i can see him going that way if he keeps placing behind branch et al.

Flex Lewis comes to mind but he is also getting up in age.  Rhoden in 2-3 years doesn't seem like he'll be around.

I hope not.  I thought Bonac and Roelly (LOL) were robbed. So was McCarver Branch should have been way down the list.

Just being around that weekend it seemed like people were gravitating towards Ramy.  Bonac gained a lot of new fans as well.  I think him, Rhoden, and  Cedric should keep doing what they are doing and not become poofy.  THAT is the look a lot of people want...even Arnold agrees with us.  Plus Cedric is HILARIOUS.  He would make a fantastic Mr. Olympia.

I think Phil's days are numbered.  To my limited knowledge of Men;s Bodybuilding even I can tell he has about 1 more go round before he really will start going downhill.  He doesn't look GOOD. Friday I didn't think he looked good AT ALL.  I said he looked muddy. His body will have a harder time getting into condition the more it goes on.

My theory though is that if things don't look great for him this year, he will make up a story and not compete

That Dexter kid is up and coming. Keep an eye on him. He's still developing but by the time he's 55 his muscle maturity will be next level shit.

kulco seems to have been ditched in the last year in favour of mccarver as the next great white hope.

I thought he was very good. You don't cringe when you look at him like Branch. Steve is very cute. He should try and be a reporter or something. Him and Amanda could have a show together

Did everybody forget about Compton already? He's the next big thing if he doesn't let his gut get out of control.

There are a few issues. Firstly, the emphasis on muscles per inch as opposed to overall look means every Mr O will be 5ft7-5ft10 with short torso under current judging criteria. That's why Phil, Kai etc place so high.

Secondly, they need to reduce the emphasis on dryness. Not only is it unhealthy, it penalises taller athletes like Wolf, Cedric etc. Not only was there no crazy emphasis on dryness in Arnold's day, there were 5 people on stage, not 25. Holding condition as a tall athlete with such ridiculous parameters is impossible.

As for Bonac, the guy looks great now but a couple more years of HGH and with his short torso he will be Kai the 2nd. Reward the size he has now before he chases the magic dragon and looks pregnant like the rest of them.

Thing is, almost no one is real dry anymore. That's one of the reaons why people say the pros were better in the 90s. No one is prepared to die these days  :D

He will be a pro very soon. He adds another 5-10lbs of muscle and is a bit leaner; he will win any NPC pro qualifier that he enters.

I keep hearing people say this and while I don't think people should be at death's door for no money and a crappy trophy, I DO think a lot of these people rely too much on drugs and not enough on dieting and training.  There is no excuse for Mr. Olympia to look like a poofy mess for much of the year.  I do not think people should train foolishly and crazy with horrible form like Branch Warren and Ronnie Coleman but I would like to at LEAST some kind of good technique and inspiring training.

We got into a long discussion about this because I said even when you talk to some of these new coaches, it's all these silly gimmicks, fancy this and that, and I just feel at some point you have to go back to basics.

I think the main reason you don't see a lot of guys with that same kind of crispness to them is because of the drug protocol and because I just think they get too fat and sloppy in the offseason.

I wonder also is that a factor into why people don't compete as often.
