No shit?

Yep.  Comes from far away, through lots of hands, and many mark ups.  Like goddamn everything here.

You'd think a beer obsessed culture like Aus would make good beer.  ???  And yet.  Not much of a microbrewery movement here.  My theory is you can't get anything off the ground for under a couple million by the time you've bought all the stainless steel gear and met health and licencing regulations, so any brand able to survive isn't made by brewers anymore but by accountants.  Bottom Line Brewery Swill Inc.

Have you tried this? Suppose to be available in the fall(now). My brother swears by it but I can't find it...

Only tried their Torpedo IPA. Very piny, like Sculpin (Ballast Point), probably too hoppy for me. I've never even seen these two SNs, are they new?

I'm good with their pale. Mirror Pond (Deschutes), Figueroa Mountain, Firestone, and Stone all make good ones, too, just harder to find.

I'm gonna ask my gal's cousin about this, see what she's drinking now. She likes SN as well but recently moved to Aus. Can't imagine she'd be ok with that price.

Told me they have great Shiraz Down Under, maybe she's just a wino now.

Girlfriend likes this stuff, but too fruity for me. Not crazy about the whites, or Hefs, or Belgians, etc.

My pop likes this Hangar 24 stuff, an orange wheat from this local brewery, but it's got that sweet, floral thing going, too. Just can't develop a taste for these.

It's actually the acid/bitter taste from most beers that I can't stand, so I prefer the fresh ones like Tuborg from Denmark or Alfa from the netherlands, or the spicy ones from Hoegaarden like their wheat or DAS beer. For unknown reasons they stopped producing the DAS (why?!)

Those Hangar guys have nice artwork. Never saw their beer over here in Europe.

The microbrewery scene is slowly starting to take off more here. Brisbane has a number of great local beers and Tassie has some fine drops too.

It's a cool place, across the street from Redlands Airport here in SoCal. My brother rented an actual hangar directly across from the brewery, where he and his pal ran a short-lived custom hot rod/bike shop.

Only shop pic I have on my computer:

Had a nice Stella Artois (no homo) tonight myself.
Those are only good on tap. Don't drink it bottled. Glorified terpintine.

My bro? Yeah, it was just a weekend gig for both. His pal still has the place, my brother just moved outta state, so they retired name/partnership.

Brian is a brilliant mechanic and Rob (bro) is a magician welder/fabricator. They restored an old Cadillac and a Merc for this rich widow, baddest rods I've ever seen.

I'm in WA and the business in the front/party out the back mullet scene is in full swing.  I spot a few/day.

It is so.  I don't carry my own spitoon or anything but the Margaret River region in the west is renowned for good Shiraz.  (It was mostly full of bumpkins when I got here in 99, now a classic $20 hamburger tourist trap.)  They seem to do well with just about anything here other than Pinots.

The wine game is an odd one here imo.  The buying up has probably slowed since the mining money stopped flowing but a lot of producers who began in the last 10-15 years were small time, new money millionaires (no getbigger) looking for a Primary Producer tax dodge, I think.  Even at the $30/bottle that they seem to average I can't figure out how they make ends meet given obscene buy in and running costs.  I don't know a lot of millionaires but there was a trend there for awhile of rich women mentioning to me they were buying a vineyard in Margaret River.  Seemed like the in thing to do for The Monied.  I probably should have tried to hobo the gravy train somehow.  I've heard several tales of glory from building contractors taking great pride in the extent to which they crucified their well-to-do wine region clients.  Oh well.

True story, I'm going to be at Oktoberfest this year. Hope to see this, and hopefully get my wife in some of this wardrobe.

19:30 Kenneth Mars as Adolph J. Norbecker;

“When my grandfather founded this business in Germany…87 years ago…huh, ok…He knew the secret of a successful beer…he knew it was not in the hops…no…it was not in the aging…no…
Do you know in what is the secret of a successful beer?... The secret of a successful beer is advertising…you see…all beer is essentially the same…it is all fermented piss colored water!”
