My younger bro was my best training partner, shared same philosophy for training at the time, good brotherly out do each other rivalry too... But before that just seemed to be people who trained the same time as you who followed a similar routine, same times at gym.. I train alone now as I cant have set in stone gym times with job/familly

Been working out with my wife for the past 6-8 months. It rekindled my love for the gym. Her enthusiasm and progress keeps things from getting stale. Forces me to train harder I want to set a good example. I get that extra adrenaline I want to impress her. Our training is consistent and I do a lot more cardio. I know it doesn't work for everyone but if you have gf or wife who is serious committed and capable it's a lot of fun. Feels like we are on a fun date or something. When I'm by myself sometimes I get lazy skip sets or certain exercises I don't like. When you have a partner you force each other to do things. The pace is fast we keep things moving as soon as one of us is done the other gets right in there.

I can see the plus sides to that, keeps your wife in good shape etc.... But half the point if the gym for me is to get away from the family, get a good session in and shoot the shit with the lads after

Ya I understand that. Once I moved I never really became friends with any one at the gym. No one talks. They all keep their ear buds in. At my old gym I knew every one. We had the high school athletes the long time gym rats the townies. Things aren't the same. At least once a week I go to a different gym. I have two memberships. If I need some time to myself.

If you have a good personality and can make friends then you can find a training partner.

met my wife in a gym.  been hangin 'n bangin with her ever since ... well, we're not really training partners (I don't use a spot for anything) ... but we do some exercises together and others apart.

You develop a rapport with someone. It might be asking to work in a set, or a spot. After a while it's, "hey great work out...what are you working out tomorrow?". And you two agree to work out the next day, and there you have it, a "workout partner".

And thats why I wear ear buds and an MP3 player and dont spot people.

Find another man who is doing about the same weight as you on the lift, wait for an opportune moment and gaze deeply into his eyes and ask, "can I get a spot bro?"  If it is bench, wait until the end of the set but don't get up from the bench.  Stay down about ten uncomfortable seconds still on your back with his balls positioned over your face, then look up sheepishly and say "that was an amazing spot, would you be my workout buddy?"

As it was said, once you have a time and routine it won't be long(month or 2 tops) before you find someone to match up with.

How far is croatch  from you?

I lift alone by choice, would hate to have to commit to putting up with some fuckwit 5 days a week.

Never had a decent training partner so always prefer to train alone, we have a gym at work and I go on my dinner hour and trained with 3 workmates over the lat 2 years, one did a day and never trained again, the other 2 done it for a few weeks one was a fatass who stunk of shit and tried to get me not to go on days he couldn't be arsed. I'm a bit soft and usually haven't the heart to say no but after that shit have to draw the line.

At least training alone you can go whatever time you want and change routine atoun as you wish without thinking of anyone else.

I you have someone that will push you, it does make your training very productive.. If your going heavy it helps alot too, passing dbells, being able to go for new pb's with the confidence your not going to end up trapped under a bar

Its amazing how someone beating your reps helps you grind an extra one or two out
