It’s fun to make ice cream…and it’s not that much of a hassle…half condensed milk and half regular milk with flavoring…heat as if you are making hot chocolate and stir continuously…when it is about the temperature of hot chocolate…take it off the heat and put it in an ice cream freezer…fill with ice and salt…I like water softener salt rather than ice cream salt…run it until it freezes…quickly take the dasher out and put the ice cream in the freezer to cure.

Someone told me that you can make lemon sorbet by mixing lemonade with lemon Jello mix and heating it as if you are making Jello and put that in an ice cream freezer.

I went through a phase where I made all of my own stuff and got sick and tired of buying all the ingredients, time to make and especially clean up and realized it's just cheaper to buy a pint of Haggen Daz when it's on sale than to buy a quart of cream.

Now, this is a thread we can be proud of, and, if you're ever in upstate NY:

Great ice cream,I get it all the time when cravings hit.

Those were my thoughts exactly. When I want sweets, its probably because it is a cheat meal. I do not want to slave over my cheat meal, unless it is homemade Italian/Mexican. I'd rather buy a pint and veg out on the couch with the lady.

This one is similar and also amazing. It's only available in the Summer in freshly packed pints.

I believe Penn State University has an Ice Cream making class and runs a store on campus.  Apparently they have wicked good ice cream.

This is another Upstate product that I've never seen in NYC. Just as well. These are dangerous:

Quality product.  Way better than Entenmann's (now owned by Bimbo)

No contest. The place where I last got them, a supermarket chain called Price Chopper, had a special sale: Buy one box, get two free. No wonder there are so many fat people in upstate NY.

Back to Ice Cream:

Saw this one in the CVS up the block. It looks like a good candidate for the weekend indulgence:

Anyone ever try it?

Stewart's is a 7Eleven type chain of convenience stores in upstate NY, headquartered in Saratoga. They make some of their own products like Ice Cream and potato chips. Good coffee, too.

Not that flavor, but that same "slow churned" type; It is good if you are watching your calorie intake, but falls short compared to the higher quality brands (B&J's, HD, etc.)

Tried "Blonde Ambition" by B&J this weekend. The brown sugar ice cream tasted just like vanilla, kinda bland, but I am a sucker for toffee pieces in my ice cream. The highlight of this ice cream was the Blonde Brownie pieces (half an inch thick), but unfortunately there were only like 5 or 6 pieces of them.

Looks and sounds good, especially the brownies.

I didn't do Ice Cream, this weekend. I bought a shitload of mini candy bars for the trick or treaters, and sampled more than my share. Had I added Ice Cream into the mix, I would've ended up in a diabetic coma.

We'll pick it up, again, next weekend. My local supermarket has Edy's Rocky Road, which looks good.

Gave Edy's Rocky Road a shot, this weekend.

With all the extras, I guess to make it less caloric they thinned out the ice cream. It seemed less dense than Fudge Tracks and wasn't as fulfilling. Wouldn't have it, again.

With Edy's slow churned, go with Fudge Tracks.

My grocery store has been letting me down as of late with ice cream selections.
I think it is due to the change in seasons. Luckily Blue Bell is restocking in my area this past week.

This week's ice cream:  Ben & Jerry's Peanut Buttah Cookie Core

This is the second time I've had this ice cream, it is one of my all-time favorites. If you love peanut butter, you will love this ice cream.

All the Edy's slow churned stuff is decent.

But CVS charges about 5-6 bucks for that......you can find it at supermarkets and Targets in the 3-4 range.

This is true in Upstate NY. I live in the city. CVS is the cheapest @$6, the supermarkets charge $8-9.

CVS also has self service checkout. So, the ice cream doesn't melt while I wait on line to get to the 300lb cashier.
