Turns out she wasn't drunk, interesting twist, they claim she was upset she lost her job earlier that day or something. If everyone that loses their job does this there will be very few people left

That is too broad a statement. Say the limit is 1 pint of beer (it is close to that here now). Should you lose your licence forever?

I get that it is wrong to just punish drunk drivers who get in accidents as that is acting after the horse has bolted, but the drink driving laws should be graded.  I know one drink impares driving, but there is a massive difference between someone swerving wildly and someone over the limit legally but in reality impared less than someone who got 5 hours sleep.
