Do powerlifters think they are really that tough?
« on: October 27, 2015, 06:47:08 AM »
Ever see some of these guys on social media? I've noticed many have a liking for barking and bellowing on socio-political issues, with most having some odd blend of conservatism and touchy-feely liberalism (usually some exaggerated sympathy for homosexuals and transgenders).

Do they think they are really so tough because they lift weights? I've met some nice ones in person, but most of those I see on social media think the are tough and special and are prone to online meltdowns.

For me Weight Training is about more than just powerlifting or Bodybuilding. Most people train for generel Health or Rehab.

Powerlifters are often white trash. But Not always.

I can live with that accurate assessment.  :)  I do try and change that stereotype.

Powerlifters do think they 're tough. I've heard a well known Powerlifter,as far as powerlifting goes, claim he could kick anyone s ass because he deadlifts 700 lbs.

The key to this thread is that you`re talking about assholes online.........they have an agenda.

I met a bunch of great powerlifters back in the day that taught me a lot about lifting and training hard.

Just run up the stairs away from these guys.

Eh...I have to agree that it's this online BS.  The people I know who are really about the lifestyle don't act like the a-holes you see online.

In this day and age they'll live a MUCH longer life than today's bodybuilding mess. That being said who cares if they're "fat".

As a competitive powerlifter I have to say some of the most helpful, decent and friendly lads and girls in the whole gym game have been at power lifting comps. Usually fat though

I have gotten more 1000 yard stares over the years from 150lbs massive juicehead twinks who think they are bodybuilders than any powerlifters.

If anything the bigger the lifter(powerlifter, bodybuilder, weightlifter, etc) typically my experience is they tended to be nicer to not only me but everyone

I am 46 and have been around gyms since 1986 with the exception of a few layoffs and 90% of the douchery I have seen has been in the last7-8 years, ironically since the rise in popularity of the selfie, duckface, crossfit, MMA and Jersey shore wannabe's
