Stupid bodybuilding "secrets" that you've tried

I have to think the dumbest was drinking a glass of Alka Seltzer before a workout.  I think it was Bill Phillips that wrote about ingesting sodium bicarbonate before a workout would reduce lactic acid build upin the muscle.  Initially I was drinking Baking Soda mixed with water and some lemon juice and it was awful.  My gut would be so bloated and I would just burp all workout then I read in Flex or some other mag about taking an Alka Seltzer.  It sucked being so naïve about growing muscle and trying all of this shit.

When I first started lifting "seriously" I'd mimic all the Jay Cutler workouts I could find.

Little did I know, I was following the wrong Cutler brother.  :'(

These are not secrets but typical bodybuilding practices that impaired my well-being, and now without them, I am in better shape than I ever have been.

1) You must eat a gram of brotein per pound.
2) You have to eat every two to three hours or else you will "go catabolic".
3) You have to eat clean (what exactly is this?).
4) You should taper your carbs down as the day goes by. Don't eat carbs late at night except after a workout.
5) Thou must do back squats, regular deadlifts, and flat barbell bench press to get big.
6) You have to get a "base of strength" with low reps in the big lifts. After earning your stripes you can go onto a pure size routine. That is, you have to prove your powerlifting abilities before going on to being a bodybuilder or guy who wants to be jacked.

I also had other beliefs on BB that I've mentioned before.

I'm yet to see anyone who has achieved that super human pro size advocate anything less than 1g per lbs.

Mike Mentzer ate less than a gram per pound. Nasser said he ate less than a gram per pound in the offseason. Maybe they were lying. Maybe they were not.

I'm still not sold on eating tons of protein. I believe 0.6 to 0.8 grams per pound is fine. More is not harmful if you want to get your calories like that, but it's not necessary.

I did the same but with diet! I watched some video where Jay said he ate a ton of carbs (don't remember the exact number of grams, but i think he said it was close to 1,000g/day), so I thought, shit, I need to start packing away carbs! Needless to say I got fat as fuck eating the way Jay claimed to eat.

I believe some are true at least if the trainer is natural. Food timing seems to be a big deal for a natural at least from my own experiences.

Food timing is super important when you are on HGH and Insulin, not so much otherwise.
