Raw ratings at an all time low....
« on: November 04, 2015, 04:41:43 AM »
When last week's episode of Monday Night Raw fell to 3.75 million viewers for the Extreme Rules fallout show, it looked like it couldn't get much worse for WWE's flagship program. Those numbers were, after all, some of the lowest in the past 15 years.

And then it got worse.

This week's show, an "A" effort or not, drew just 3.57 million viewers. The Observer notes that's the smallest viewing audience for a non-holiday, non-football season episode of Raw since 1997.

The hourly breakdown is bad but could be worse considering they retained viewers:

Hour one: 3.42 million
Hour two: 3.71 million
Hour three: 3.59 million

Ironically, the last two Raws have been pretty good. Looks like they've alienated people to the point where they've had enough.

It also shows that the WWE will have to move past the Attitiude Era, as Michaels and Austin no longer move the needle.

You think? I have fallen asleep the last two night's trying to watch it as I PVR it and usually sift through. I find it way to repetative. Start of show...guy comes out...talks....yap yap...get's interrupted...more yap yap...etc.

They need to revisit their roots.

Give Cornette and Heyman the pencil for 6-8 months.
Seriously, what have they got to lose at this point?

Apparently, Steph has some deep seated resentment of Heyman, because when they worked together, Paul was seen by the boys as a great visionary; Steph, as the Boss's daughter.

100% correct in that analogy. Good point.

How much of their trouble is that they are PG?  I think it would be better to go PG13 but without all the raunchy women degrading shit.

I believe they could be successful under PG but they need compelling storylines which they have almost zero of.

I would say that 75% of their trouble is the fact that they are PG with the balance being very poor storylines couples with lousy talant that people don't really care to see.

Could the writers do more with expanded range?

I honestly don't think so. The talent pool stinks IMHO.

As long as WWE is a publicly traded company, PG isn't going anywhere. I still believe their major problem is the length of the show. That affects everything. The writers have to stretch everything, and the talent gets overexposed.

Seriously, throw Sullivan, Cornette, Heenan, and Heyman into a locked room for 48 hours with only paper, pencils, coffee and whiskey.

Problem solved.
Guaranteed.

I mentioned in the Rollins thread that Cesaro could use a manager: Sullivan would be perfect.

Cesaro definately needs a mouth piece. No question. Sullivan would be a good fit but his in/out ring days are done. He did well with the Dungeon of Doom back in '95. I think they should pair off Cesaro with Dutch Mantell and give that a try. Keep Cesaro in singles competition and have him chase the IC title.

Focus on wrestling rather than over the top story lines.

This happened before and WCW started taking the lead because they were a wrestling based wrestling company instead of a story line based company.

Story lines shouldn't be overthought. Let wrestlers natural personalities come through more instead of them being ridiculous, fictitious characters. For example would you rather see Razor Ramon and Diesel or Scott Hall and Kevin Nash? See what I'm saying?

Hire athletes. Amateur wrestlers, football players, failed bodybuilders, big dudes.

Loved Razor!

But can't watch this shit no more. I'm embarrassed for them it's so stupid.

Then, they fell victim while trying to copy WWF with the over-drawn vignettes.

I still remember cringing the night a camera followed Nash as he went to different local bars "searching" for Hall, who was having very public drinking/substance problems at the time.
Fans were treated to three hours of recurring segments of looking at Kevin Nash's back.

I wish I knew who booked that particular garbage that night.

This s week's Raw hovered right around the all time low,  and that's up against a really bad football game with two mediocre, at best, teams.

Add Big Show to the injured list. Apparantly he hurt himself when he got choke slammed by Kane going thru two tables. Now lets see....the injured list:

Seth Rollins
Big Show
Sting
Tyson Kid
John Cena (nagging injuries that are kept hush hush so he doesn't lose his spot)
Nikki Bella

Now is the time for any hungry star to step up to the plate and claim.

It's a shit product now.   Look at how fast they rushed the Taker/Kane/Wyatt angle.  I guess the saying really is true that WWE exists simply for the sole audience of one.  VKM
