Fired but I doubt any jail time or civil litigation....in fact he'll likely be reinstated as the other teacher was for breaking up a fight by using a broom.  He used his belt to break up a fight and prevent injuries so it falls under the Good Samaritan Law

Good for him.  Kids can be assholes and need discipline.  If they don't get it at home, then they need to get it at school.

If the teacher was a white man, he'd be charged with hate crimes, get sent to prison and the kids would all get invited to the White House.
