Flexing after workouts for growth?
« on: November 17, 2015, 05:11:07 AM »
Reading posts from guys like hazbin turned me on (no homo) to the idea of flexing after lifting for 10 to 15 minutes to help with growth. .... maybe this is an obvious idea to some but it's not something that I have ever done.

Thoughts?

I've found increased fatigue the next day after adding this step to my workout. And it's quite tough to do, pushing my heart rate up nicely.

it's good for working on mind-muscle connection aka neural pathways, which indirectly will help growth

i realize i am the impetus for this thread, but i think it makes an incredible huge difference..   anyone that has competed knows how much effort posing takes.  i've been in shows with large weight classes, and i would've rather lost than had to go thru another round of comparisons.

At my old job I would sometimes work out on my lunch hour in the weight room. Usually I was the only one there with tons of mirrors. You do the math. Flexorama!

You always hear people talk about flexing after each set. Does it make a difference? Yes? No?

Just look at the arm that you flex all the time when someone says make a muscle. It is usaully a lot better than the other one.

An incredible difference in what? I can certainly see the value if you are a competitive bber as tensing your muscles for extended periods of time is very exhausting. But does it actually help muscle growth? The benefits of stretching a muscle after it has been trained has been shown to aid in recovery and I imagine functional ability. But I wonder if any studies has been done on muscle flexing. I can see that if you are injured and unable to train that flexing would help keep the muscle "toned". It seems that flexing a muscle does provide some stimulus which I imagine is better than doing nothing.

I'm all about the stretch but don't do any flexing in the gym.

well thanx, I take that as a compliment.  I remember mike mentzer saying when he posed he could feel his muscle growing.  now this is certainly physiologically impossible, but I remember flexing so hard the muscle started to kinda tingle like it was busting thru the skin. I am guessing this is what mentzer was talking about.
I truly believe hard posing influences the shape, hardness and certainly the vascularity of your muscle..

big difference between posing and discreetly flexing the bodypart you are training.  if you are wearing loose clothing and contract your pecs as hard as possible during a chest workout no one has to know.

Posing after your training session or during your training, is not going to help you to grow.

BUT it helps to be more defined. To get deeper "lines" in your muscles and a better shape. I cannot scientificaly explain that, but my coach said that to me and at his other atheltes many times.

Flexing is helping a lot preventing injuries since you help your muscle to have more "endurance". I wish that i would start years before the flexing.

I think at the very least it helps the mind muscle connection.

I enjoy flexing my biceps in the hands clasp pose and hold till my arms start shaking.

I always flex my right arm when asked to "show me your muscles" even as a little kid. But that's because that was my bigger arm in the first place and that I am right handed. BTW, I always did some extra sets for my left arm to "even them out" and it made zero difference. I still do. When doing unilateral work my first set is with my left and my last set is with my left. It's just out of habit. Now that I think about it, I think I should stop. I mean, if it hasn't made a difference after 40 years of training it's not going to make a difference now.

It's like when someone was saying that doing construction work makes you stronger and gives you bigger forearms when in fact a weak person is far less likely to take a profession that requires physical strength than a strong person.

Arnold's right bicep always had a better peak than his left. Even as a teen.
