“The family have requested privacy at this stage, they are obviously going through a terrible time. It was totally unexpected. Jonah and his family arrived back from the United Kingdom last night and he suddenly died this morning.”

Lomu had suffered from health problems since his retirement from playing in 2002 due to a rare kidney disease, nephrotic syndrome. He underwent a kidney transplant in 2004 and had been on dialysis treatment for the past 10 years.

wow, would never have expected that but then you just don't know. You can spend your life eating well and training and then be struck down with something crippling at the drop of a hat.

Don't fret guys, when it comes to sports, there will ALWAYS be more on the auction block.  In case nobody has told you, its always going to be a never-ending game, so what is the actual point of of it all?

Very true, my old neighbour never drank or smoked or went to bed late! Did marathons, triathalons, swam to the Isle of Wight, cycled across Europe and all sorts. Was riddled with a rare form of cancer when he died age 52.

Maybe he just overtrained and did not give his muscles proper recovery time.

I wouldn't use an anecdotal example to justify eating shitty or smoking or drinking.

That doesn't just apply to sports. It applies to life. There will always be more babies being born. It might not matter to you but it does matter to his family and those that knew him and even knew of him. Just like it will matter to us, and hopefully even more to you, if the lovely Jezzebelle should suddenly past on. None of us knew her personally but we knew of her through you.

It's part of being human, our humanity, that gives us this connection and empathy.

Remember, he wouldn't think twice if he read "MoralMan (insert real name here) passed away last night".
Half a million people probably died yesterday, life goes on (for us)...

A legend on the field but his work off the field made him a superstar. A real and genuine gentle giant. So much work for charaties and as an ambassador, even when he was suffering with his health. A big loss.

To be fair...he did own his performance, and he added value at every turn.
