I will reserve judgement until he has the chance to run the program for a couple/ few years. I will say this much, they could have went much larger if they'd wanted to.

USC is  prime college coaching job. With in the range of 3.4 million a year.

USC athletic directer Pat Hayden has been very close to being fired. Common knowledge in the Pac-12 that Sarkisian had a serious drinking problem  (also hookers). Why Haden hired him is still a mystery.

New coach Helton is well liked by most of the players. Which means Helton has the locker room with happy players. Happy players tend to play harder for their coach. Few believed that USC would beat UCLA, but ground & pounded the line. With good placed passes.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/14313181/steve-sarkisian-files-wrongful-termination-lawsuit-usc-trojans

Steve Sarkisian files wrongful-termination lawsuit against USC

Former USC coach Steve Sarkisian filed suit against the university Monday, saying the school "kicked him to the curb" and wrongfully terminated him in October.

His complaint asks for at least $12.6 million in damages, but Sarkisian's attorney told TMZ.com he will seek more than $30 million
. In the lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles, Sarkisian alleges the university fired him without accommodating his efforts to seek treatment for his "disability."

Sarkisian was on a flight to enter alcohol-rehabilitation treatment on Oct. 12 when he was fired via email by athletic director Pat Haden.

"Instead of supporting its Head Coach, Steve Sarkisian, when he needed its help the most, USC kicked him to the curb," the lawsuit states. "Instead of honoring the contract it made with Steve Sarkisian, USC kicked him to the curb. Instead of accommodating Steve Sarkisian's disability, USC kicked him to the curb."

The suit also asserts Sarkisian has, at times, been "a person with a disability" under federal law because of his alcoholism and that the stress of his job contributed to his alcohol dependency.

"Under the circumstances of this case, California law required USC to make reasonable accommodation of giving Steve Sarkisian time off to get help for his disability and then return to his job," the lawsuit states. "Instead, USC ignored both its obligations under California law and the commitments it made to Steve Sarkisian."

The suit says Sarkisian is now sober and ready to return to coaching, but USC "has taken away his team, his income and a job that he loved." The suit also alleges USC violated his contract by refusing to pay him money he is owed.

In a statement Monday, USC general counsel Carol Mauch Amir said Sarkisian "mischaracterized" the facts and that the school will "defend these claims vigorously."

"Much of what is stated in the lawsuit filed today by Steve Sarkisian is patently untrue," the statement read. "The record will show that Mr. Sarkisian repeatedly denied to university officials that he had a problem with alcohol, never asked for time off to get help and resisted university efforts to provide him with help. The university made clear in writing that further incidents would result in termination, as it did."

they should have tried to get Chip Kelly. With his ability to recruit, and the athlete's in California, USC would scare the hell out of every team in the NCAA

It seems like he took personal responsibility by getting the help he needed. Its not like he remained an alcoholic and believed he should still have a job. According to reports, he sobered up--to me, that is the epitome of taking personal responsibility for his actions; he realized he had a problem and did something about it. It doesn't seem like he blamed anyone else for his alcoholism.

Many jobs will hold your position while you seek treatment. Whether or not USC has this policy in place is another story. I do not know.

That's fine, but in 99% of the workplaces in this world, you show up to work drunk and you're fired, plain and simple.

He's typical of the USC culture.   He coached DRUNK - and he wants to get paid for it.

Guy should be kicked out of coaching forever... but USC has allowed this shady shit to go on for decades.

Perhaps. I know there are MANY jobs (union jobs) that have policies implemented that require the person to get help before they can be fired. They allow one strike (you must get help for your addiction). Strike two, you're gone. I worked a union job while going for my Masters. Ive seen it happen.

At the end of the day, we don't know (I certainly do not know) what policy USC has surrounding this sort of behavior. If they broke a specific policy/contract, then they should be held accountable. If they did not, then he needs to go on his way and keep doing his own thing

What do you know about Obama, aside from what you read/see on TV?

You can know obama sucks without having ever met the man.

I see USC flying thru coaches who leave in disgrace, cheating their way to wins, and being one of the most disgraced schools in the nation.   Pete Carroll cheated and had the 2014 title stripped.   That alone is enough, that's very rare.

the problem is so many people justifying their rule-breaking as "well, they're winning!"

Yes, if you break the rules, you gain advantages, and you win.  That's not winning to brag about. And it's not just paying players and looking the other way on rape charges... Coach Carroll dating a college chick on the side?  Running out of town as investigations came?

Time shows all.  Coach went to the NFL, used drugs on players to win a title.  Then his liberal colors showed when he harassed a 911 hero general out of the building with his compulsive badgering.   It is what it is.

The other night I was watching the Cavs-Pelicans and the star player on LSU was sitting on the sidelines.  I thought scholarship players can't take gifts like courtside seats.  Tell me something shady wasn't happening there.
