Can You Compete With A Pro Athlete?
« on: November 30, 2015, 12:37:42 PM »
this guy can,...he is an all star stud athlete who tears up the flag football field on weather permitting Sundays  :o :o :o

Lol, I played football and baseball in highschool (quit both to get a job) and still play flag football almost every sunday.

I guarantee I am a better athlete than a certain Canadian guy with the receding hairline, ever was.

I was throwing 80mph at 15-16, and still have an absolute cannon for an arm. In fact, I can literally hang (in terms of arm strength) with college and professional quarterbacks.

We talking A, Double-A - AAA?

On all levels I say I can not.

No way, no how.

Shizzo would lose to high school level athletes. Maybe even primary.

A very good athlete and a pro athlete (in many cases) are not always so distinguishable.

The difference, in an elite competition, a pro athlete can raise his game many levels.

Also much different to do special things under pressure and on game day. I was always very good at shooting random shots at basketball to win the game of "horse" but in a game, never made one of those shots!

Swam in HS.  Trained damn hard.  Used to come in first frequently, often with a big lead, and figured I was pretty good.  Would come home with 3 or 4 golds every time, once with 7, having won every event I entered including taking 2 relay teams from losing to winning.

Then I went to a state meet and came home with 1 bronze for backstroke.  Didn't even place in other events and no olympic recruiters came schmoeing around that day.  Nothing like actual competition to ruin your illusions.

I was high level in a few amateur sports (ie national champion and competed in worlds junior level). Not a patch on pro or the levelS below pro. I could pick up skills easily but the dedication and putting balls on the line to risk being a pro tennis player or golfer and sacrifice the safer option of using academic skills and taking safer option. No way. And of i couldnt do that i definitely could not make a clutch shot or putt or whatever. I was on Leinster squads with two (now pro) tennis players both struggling to eek out a living and they trained 3 hours per night when i studied/wanked and watched the simpsons.

Shizzo had the waist for present day bodybuilding

One of my high school buddies was a 6'5 pitcher with a 95 mile per hour fastball.

He was looked at by everyone, hurt his shoulder senior year went and played football in college for a bit then went back to baseball(his shoulder somehow healed)

He still had the 95mph but never made it beyond those leagues like you see in Bull Durham where you make like $800 a month(at least back in the 90's lol)

Point is you can have the most god given talent for pro sports in the world, but the pros get to be pros because they can perform at that elite level day in day out 365 days a year, memorize the pays etc.

100% of armchair quarterbacks including all those fags on sports tv and radio who pontificate about let's say a goalie's shitty save, a pitcher's crappy pitch, a quarterback's shitty throw could not even touch what they do on the field in the shittiest fucked up play

Put it this way, the shittiest MLB players could hit Roger Clemons worst pitches any day on the average amout of pitches during any game.

The rest of could not hit his pitches if he lobbed them like a softball.

Thats the difference

Your so right and even going from hs to div 1 college is brutal.  I was a hs running back and moved to WR in college and it's day and night from hs!

Yup.

Have a friend who was the best hitter in his college's history (big school too)...got drafted and was out after one year of A ball.  I asked him the difference and he said it was basically  this:  in college if a pitcher got behind in the count, you could get a pitch to hit.  Jumping to A ball, he said they're painting the corners in this situation at 90+.  And most of THESE guys don't get to MLB.

Most people don't get the small 1 or 2 % differentials between grades and the difference between being 95% as good as a pro and being a pro/top pro.

That said I have played against and seen in person future pro players at schools' level. I remember one (Rob Kearney - rugby) was just in another world from the rest on the pitch. He is Irish fullback in rugby but nothing special as a pro.

That's so damn true.

I never got out of High School sports... I did get recruited to play soccer at a private university, but I was kind of done with the sport.

The jump from JV -> V -> collegiate -> any pro... even the worst... HUGE leaps all around.

Excellent post.

The worst part about the guys who never accomplished anything in athletics is them getting old, turning 50, and revisiting their imagined "glory days".

What's next? Comparing fingernail growth for superiority?

Dicksuck lame....

I remember years ago David Wells was on Howard Stern and talking about when he pitched that perfect game he was still drunk from the night before.

That's how good these guys are at this level, they can play literally circles around people in their sleep.
