11.5 years I served, had an M-16 & Browning Hi-Power 9mm by my side or AVAILABLE 24/7...
Now, not being in the Army owning an M-16 in CANADA is a felony (You can have an AR-15 with a complicated & expensive license)

***  BUT, 35 minutes south of me in Burlington, Washington State you can go to a range and fire a rental Assault rifle!!!

But I can't comment in good faith, until I know what the basic parameters are now.

But my point was, if you have a clean record, how can you be denied?

The reason why it's 2nd, is that it's designed to protect the 1st.

What if you had to pull a weekend because of something like a DUI or Misdemeanor drug offenses.? Stuff like that.

I would say any felony (especially for a violent crime) should be a red flag/hurdle. With that being said, should a guy be denied a gun purchase because he assaulted someone 20 years ago?

Making guns illegal across the board is just a dumb idea. It obviously hasn't stopped massacres in places with very strict gun policies in place.

Banning guns won't stop anything. Hell, even banning every potential "weapon" down to steak knifes won't stop anything. The only thing that will do is cause only criminals and under paid cops have guns.
