The push for gun confiscation begins...

New York Times now pushing for gun confiscation of certain type of "assault weapons"

Get on the record now, how long before politicians start calling for confiscation? All out ban of guns?

I say within one year politicians are openly calling for confiscation of certain guns and within 3 they are calling for an outright ban of gun.

They can call for whatever they want, but until the constitution is amended, they have no leg to stand on

A constitutional amendment isn't needed to ban/confiscate certain guns...to ban/confiscate all guns ok but they have plenty of latitude to further restrict our right before they get to the point of needing to amend the constitution.

This thread is more about when politicians start openly calling for those things though

Didn't Reagan and both bushes support the 94 assault weapons ban?  Brady bill too?

Repubs today wouldn't cave like that.

I think the best solution would be to install explosives in every American home. Then simultaneously you could all blow each other up and try to meet Jesus.

Then the Muslims and Mexicans could move in and take over completely.

I'm sorry your country sucks and you can't have more guns...but anyway. Everytime he spouts his bullshit the gun industry makes double their money. My buddy did 25K on Black Friday...its a small tactical store. You now have...on one side outright calls for gun confiscation and on the other a call by law enforcement for CCP holders to please carry their weapons. Yet another extreme postion Obama has created

This is what pisses me off.

I want a new SIG and every damn time he says some shit, fucking gun prices and really more worrisome, ammo prices go through the damn roof.

I just want Obama to shut up about guns.

Fuck.

Bullshit, the constitution does not specify what kind of gun you can have, only reason they can do this, is because we allow it. Look at miller vs united states the court basically said a weapon has to meet the requirements of a well regulated militia. Hmmmmmm, i guess that makes the assault weapon ban unconstitutional. As a matter of fact that means US citizens should have access to the same weapons as the military.

Yes they should.

That's what the 2nd Amendment is all about.

Being able to overthrow your government in a time of crisis if necessary.

technology helps a TON.

It used to be, some idiot with a gun could rob strangers and usually get away with it, particularly if he killed victim.

Now there is DNA evidence they leave behind.  There are CCTV cameras everywhere.  There are profilers and criminal databases and crimestoppers and facebook police alerts.  And simply a crappy camera image from some nearby camera - placed on social media and shared - people get caught.

potential bad guys are more scared to get caught.
repeat bad guys do get caught.
and a shitload of us have permits, which bad guys fear the fck out of.  Bubba sees someone doing a crime, bubba doesn't always follow the law.  Bubba often 'stands his ground' and just wastes bad guy and lets his lawyer explain it away.

Bad guys have many new factors coming at them, and it's only getting worse!

I've been watching cable news for 2 decades.  High school AP International relations class forced me to read newspaper daily, and I liked it.  Annoying and whiny at times, but I'll take news over "Friends" reruns any day.

Like many things, it's cyclical. You're freaking out about "they'll be calling for a gun ban in 3 years".  Nope.  The same 3-4 out of 535 in congress will, but it ain't happening.  Today's "outcry" is NOTHING like what we saw after columbine, etc, where they were making mainstream movies about it.

nothing will come of this, other than some politicians using it to raise money, some news outlets screaming to get clicks, and everyone will move on to another story.  It'll keep repeating.  Nobody is taking guns.  Obama had congress and a mandate with his massive win, and he didn't touch shit.  Any talk about republican congress letting it happen with a president hilary?   No chance.  it's just about money and headlines.

That's not the point of the thread moron, the point is how long until they start calling for it?

Not if they ever get it passed but when they stop acting and pushing for confiscation

until WHO starts "calling for it"?

The media has called for it for decades that I remember.

The elected officials?  They "call for it" in 2 ways.  1) screaming on MSNBC to get donations from idiots, and 2) submitting legislation (the only way any of us are actually affected).

Can you list all of the legislation calling for a gun ban that's been submitted to congress this year?  Thanks in advance.

you put way too much stock into the secret and potential intentions of politicians.

In 11 months, obama is giving speeches and spending money.  He doesn't give a shit about guns.  he is just blowing hot air to get his base rallied so they'll support'donate hilary.  he had the congress and didn't touch guns, he sure ain't touching them with repub hosue and senate.

okay.

how many politicians have to call for it?  At what level?  Cause some local SanFran mayor trying to get headlines calling for gun ban, ain't the same as President hilary calling for it.

I mean, Brietbart and Drudge will overreact to the peon politicians screaming for it... but aside from scream and enjoy the right-wing platform for it... will their stupid words ever affect you?

Obummer is going to make some kind of push for gun control similar to 2013 early next year, book it. if congress is not with him he will do some kind of EO bs.
the bigger threat tho is if Hillary wins...shes at least as radical as Obama and if she wins, their side will see it as having momentum and a 'mandate' and then shit will get real. many on the left- including her- are now openly talking about wanting confiscation; this is huge news because for decades they have been keeping this obvious desire secret and standing behind their chipping-away strategy, saying 'no one wants to take your guns' (parroted endlessly by their minions everywhere, including on this board). they have now let what we have been saying all along out into the open- that their end goal is in fact, confiscation/an end to the 2nd amendment.
they do not have the votes now but if hildabeast wins and the senate flips, they will go for it.
