are you familiar with the gun show loophole?  It's a HUGE technicality that many want to change.  I'm one of them.

LEGALLY, I can purchase ten AK-47s at my local gun store for ten grand$.

I can drive straight to the gun show, and put on a sign that says "Ten Aks for sale, $20,000" and I can legally sell them to the first person that shows me 20 grand.  I can lead them to my car, accept their cash, no receipt, no ID, no background, no govt involvement... and I can give them the ten weapons and tell them happy hunting.

They can be felons, illegals, on the terror list.  They can be on the FBI top ten list.  They can have warrants.  They can have mental adjudication because they threatened to buy ten AKs and set shit off.

DOesn't matter.  It's legal.  It's a LOOPHOLE.  There's no background check.  I do NOT like this law.  Close it and make them buy guns so terrorists/felons/warranted people will have a harder time getting them.

(Most people - once this is explained - realize the gun show loophole is a bad idea.  Most people)

1.4%

http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/02/foghorn/the-truth-about-the-gun-show-loophole/

What would the effects of such a law be? According to Senator Ted Cruz’s research, 1.4% of all firearms used in crimes come from a gun show.

You just proved my point.  Nationally, that's a lot of friggin guns.  And if someone you love is murdered by a felon, an ISIS, a nutjob, who happened to buy the gun thru the loophole, the small % wouldn't really matter, would it?

I guess what I'm asking is - WHY do you want this loophole to exist?  Even if it stopped ONE murder a year, instead of the 200 or so that it would stop... WHY would you oppose it?

I proved nothing would happen if that loophole changed. It's a left talking point. Useless. Like global warming.

What?  You proved 1.4% of gun crimes are caused by loophole guns.

1.4% isn't "nothing" when you think about it on a national level.  Do you know the word MACRO?

Ask Dumbass Walter Somecock, he is the one that brought it up.

This president and attorney general holder ruled over the most racist and racially divisive administration ever.

Obozo is dishonest and not trustworthy on his best day. And this was going to be the most transparent administration ever.

Hey Bitchtits, do you still have that men's size medium Obozo t-shirt?

You're going to focus on 1.4% to make a point and ignore the other 98.6%?

Good lord....

You want to focus on something.....tonight the president of the United States openly lied, and was purposely dishonest to the people of this country. For no other reasons than: (1) he is a liar and (2) to promote a political agenda.

Forget this gun ban smokescreen. This POTUS is not capable of protecting the citizens of the U.S.

I never said I want to ignore the other 98.6%.

I'm saying we can close 1.4% of gun violence with something very easy which won't affect us legal gun buyers in one bit.  18 states have closed it already.  Close it, and smile, cause 1.4% just closed.  Now, attack the remaining %.

I have some ideas for the other 98.6%.  Triple the prison time for gun crime offenders.  Make it so they KNOW they use a gun in an argument or a crime, they WILL get 20 years of prison time.  End the repeat offenders by locking them up early for longer.  Double police presence in Chicago and other urgan high-crime areas, body cameras on everyone to ensure police follow procedure and to make sure charges stick.  Tough to deny you had a gun, when the body camera shows the cop taking it from you ;)   (Other ideas too, just sharing this one to demonstrate the loophole isn't the ONLY thing I'd support)

"Nothing" does not equal 1.4% of 8000 gun crimes annually.   It's a small %, but if you're a person getting a loophole gun stuck in your face at a red light, that 1.4% matters a lot ;)

I do not understand the mentality on this thread.  A small adjustment that 18 states have done already which stops illegals and felons from buying guns from the trunk at your local Walmart.  And you oppose because?

What % of gun crimes stopped WOULD you support, coach?  2.4%?  3.4%?  30%?  At what magic number do you decide it's "worth it" to stop felons and illegals from buying guns without an ID?   (LOL at people who demand voter ID, but not handgun purchase ID)

the 'gunshow loophole' allows you to sell a gun to a person - without even looking at their ID.
You can meet them at a walmart, sell anyone a gun (criminal, illegal alien, etc) and it's LEGAL.  You don't have to ask in a private sale.  They can be wearing their prison blues or ISIS mankini... does not matter.  it's legal.  And I don't like that law.

a ban on mind controlling drugs such as seroquel would make more of a change than gun laws...when you actively decide to take away or modify constitutional rights or use morality as a governing tool to create laws for your citizens, you have failed your country

Public safety is not even a relevant arguement...it is a tired excuse..criminals do NOT obey laws...so more laws wont mean dick.

the people of paris, and california gave up their right to self defense......hows being an easy target going for them now?

Actually, he's spot on.  In the majority of states in the USA, it really is that easy.  I do firearm transactions like this all the time.  Email seller and tell him I want to buy his firearm, pick a place to meet (walmart, burger king, etc.) drive to location, inspect gun, hand him cash, and leave with gun.  There is no paperwork, and it's 100% legal in the majority of states.

except it was the cold war and we were looking at "massive retaliation" from Dulles as our only form of foreign policy, and mutually assured destruction was literally the only outcome. The stakes were much higher then...

I am not disagreeing with you...I am saying to be objective about this...be a student of history, or be its victim..I'm sure there are people who wish to do this country harm within our government...but pandering with fear and no baseline will only make America's own citizens resent their own country and feel disenfranchised

THANK YOU.   I know, the loophole sounds ridiculous... but it is fact.  I posted the WIKI article.  Most people don't know it exists.

It's 100% legal to sell ten AK-47s to a syrian refugee with arrest warrants who is on the terror watch list.  No ID needed.
It's crazy, and those hating on me refuse to read the wiki link to see it's actually true.

I'm not hating or trolling.  I think if you realized it was true - illegals on the terror list, people with warrants, people who just got out of prison, people on expired visas from Iran or wherever... they CAN buy a gun without an ID or background check, from a car trunk in a walmart parking lot.  LEGALLY!

I think if you saw it was true, you'd say it was a TERRIBLE idea.  Even if it only gives us 1.4% of gun crimes, it's still a LOT nationally.  And most gun crimes dont leave serial numbers around for us to analyze.

The reason many repubs get hated on, when it comes to the issue, is that they allow for ZERO flexibility.  They want to keep these sales open.  I don't get it.  When coach's only defense is "well, it's ONLY a few hundred, or 1.4%, of gun murders each year..."

That turns off a lot of moderate voters who wonder why 1.4% of shootings are A-okay.

You're missing my point.

Is a person is an illegal on a terror list, on a no-fly list because of plotting against the U.S., or on an expired visa from Iran.....what the hell are they doing in the country in the first place?

Get rid of the problem at the source and stop trying to claim an inanimate object is responsible for anything
