And how is exactly does this form serve the average gym rat or even competitive bodybuilder who wants bigger legs? There are plenty of men who have built enormous legs without this knee-shattering and back-breaking form. No, I am not talking about quarter rep squats, but rather squats to or NEAR parallel. That's enough depth to build thick quads. Actually I know some men who said their quads took a hit when they started going down further than parallel because tension comes off the quads a bit when one goes that deep.

How is his form 'knee shattering' and 'back-breaking'?  Serious question, I always felt stopping high was HARDER on both.

That's impressive.  Very good squat, strong as fuck, and a pause at the bottom.  Unfortunately in almost any gym you go to, if people even squat, it's just pathetic form.  Going down maybe halfway, bent over.  Just awful.  Load the bar up with 4 plates, go down 3 inches, think they accomplished something, and have sticks for legs.

OK, you got me, lol. I was being a bit dramatic, considering some of the talk about anyone who doesn't go ass-to-grass as not doing them correctly. I too have felt more tension on the knees if I go too high. I have a sweet spot I get to, which is a tad above parallel, in which my knees and back feel fine. People have different anatomical setups, as I am sure you know.

Problem is hardly anyone has ever seen anyone doing real squats these days, so they think those shabby quarter reps wiggling good morning hybrid is how a perfect squat is supposed to look like :D

Main problem here is and has always been a stupidity of those who you are talking to, and here is perfect example. They see a video about the squat which shows a good form to do it, and they doesn't even recognize it to be a same technique, which was used for example by Tom Platz. Nasty Form? In fact, your knees will be fine, and the upright posture makes the weight more easier to handle for your back, but the most important tip in the video is the shoes. He has weight lifting shoes, made for the squat, and squat only. Some of the people buy these shoes to use them as a training shoes, and that shows their intelligence for everybody to see. Training shoes has to be flat and flexible, squat shoes has to be stiff and with raised heels. It is all about the ergonomy of the movement, but because these guys doesn't know what it means, it is useless to explain any further  ;D

So that means most of the people has to have some kind of disabilities, knees bending backwards etc. or massive overweight as a reason why it is so. What you are saying is just bullshit. Most of the people are too lazy to stretch, period. If everyone would use same range of motion as they are able to use with the broomstick as they squat, everybody would squat correctly. Mostly it is the weight which force them to use only partial ROM, because weight boosts your ego better than deep squat  ;D

For thousands of years, before the advent of the toilet, people took dumps in a deep squatting position.

It's obviously perfectly natural to squat well below parallel. The problem is the squat rack. It allows people to lift way more than is smart. How many hip surgeries is Ronnie up to?

IMO, people would be better off long term to squat with a weight that they could get onto their backs if they had to lift it up from the ground.

BTW, I personally saw Arnold, in his 40s, squatting. He did sets of 12-15 with 135.

Not always. I have had a few knee surgeries which have hindered my ROM. That said, horses for courses. I can still get a good pump from going to parallel and not locking out at the top.

I have seen it, and in fact, just about any girl can do it, because they doesn't lift for ego. Men usually need some stretching for gluteus and hamstrings, which I know is next to impossible for average gymrat. And it's the cardio that causes most of the distress. When you get up into the 8-15 rep range, the lactate builds up in the quads, and the heart and lungs have to work double time to clear it.

I notice this with running too. I can run all day on a flat surface at a jogging pace, but if I hit a pretty steep hill,   the quads have to work and I start huffing and puffing and feel like stopping.

I recently saw a video of myself squatting, my depth looks greater from the front than the back. I go as deep as my body will allow but I'll never be able get my ass to the ground.

reconstructed my ACL in 2009....today I can squat 4 plates ATG beltless for 10 reps...excuses are like assholes

It builds great power coming out of the hole,especially with the pause at the bottom, but going that deep is certantly not necessary when cometing in a powerlifting meet.
