Feel it the biceps and forearms.
I find standard squats too painful at the moment so i am looking at old ideas, not a bad thing. I did leg press before it and i did not use heavy weight but did 20 reps per set. I see the use of this lift though for you strength orientated competitors.

For thousands of years, before the advent of the toilet, people took dumps in a deep squatting position.

It's obviously perfectly natural to squat well below parallel. The problem is the squat rack. It allows people to lift way more than is smart. How many hip surgeries is Ronnie up to?

IMO, people would be better off long term to squat with a weight that they could get onto their backs if they had to lift it up from the ground.

BTW, I personally saw Arnold, in his 40s, squatting. He did sets of 12-15 with 135.

Squatting to take a shit is not the same as squatting with 4-500lbs resting on your back.

I'm starting to think more and more that very heavy weights like that are not good long term. I think we're gonna see a change in trends in how we regard the squat and how heavy a person should go for long term joint health.

I have part of my neck that is affected by this from doing heavy squats for over a decade. Not stretching did not help my cause either but still....

Some just posted about Zercher squats and find that is one of most fuckin retarded shit ever seen. No idea they had those gimmick movements way back in the day....

A full squat will put your ass about a foot from the ground.

Jay is an outstanding squatter:

Wow 365 pounds, 1.3 times bodyweight really is outstanding for a natural guy like him.

Zercher squat is a good lift and not retarded. Jefferson lift is also a Gem from the old Days. True it is uncomfortable with a Heavy weight and a padded bar is better for us pussies but gives a great training effect.

They hurt me more than it was worth it to say I could do them. Maybe lighter is better.

Squatting heavy is idiotic unless you're training for a specific event.

99.9% of guys who load up squat racks are delusional and fancy themselves as "Elite Athletes." They're not. They're just guys who work out.

Deep squats are perfectly natural. Doing them with 315 or more digging into your traps is not.

Why is squatting heavy any different than doing other exercises with heavy weight?

You may be confusing squatting heavy with squatting poorly.

I still squat (relatively) heavy with good form and no discomfort.

I have a C6/7 problem in my neck. Front squats i do like but last time i did them i felt too much pressure on my neck. I mean a pressure i know that is not good for my problem. lowering the weight to a lower than shoulder height suits my needs and is pain free.

Still too much pressure on the neck. The position in front of my body Cradling the weight works good. C6 and C7 are lower neck.

Yeah, you're right. Heavy benching is just as idiotic. How many guys are walking around with messed up shoulders and torn pecs from years of benching? And for what?

MMA has exposed this type of training. The world has seen what real functional athletes look like: Luke Rockhold.

I got my lesson in 1996, when 175lb Renzo Gracie tooled my 215lb ass like a play toy, day after day.

I never thought about benching the same way again.

So that means most of the people has to have some kind of disabilities, knees bending backwards etc. or massive overweight as a reason why it is so. What you are saying is just bullshit. Most of the people are too lazy to stretch, period. If everyone would use same range of motion as they are able to use with the broomstick as they squat, everybody would squat correctly. Mostly it is the weight which force them to use only partial ROM, because weight boosts your ego better than deep squat  ;D

Most people can't do a proper squat with a broomstick.  Whether that can be fixed with stretching, I don't know.  I've tried to squat properly for over a decade, still can't do it.

I have seen it, and in fact, just about any girl can do it, because they doesn't lift for ego. Men usually need some stretching for gluteus and hamstrings, which I know is next to impossible for average gymrat. I am not an idiot, it only seem to be that way at your point of view, because you are too stupid to understand things I tell you  ;D

Most girls can do it because they have dramatically different hip anatomy.

And that 365 is a lot lighter in the smith machine than free weight squat.

I never had a natural motion for squatting, over the years it has become much better.

Neither could I, I needed weight to be able to be straight. No idea why, but it's just like that.

Yep, same here.  I need at least 95 on the bar, and a plate before it starts to look 'acceptable'.

So many 'natural squatters' simply don't get it.  They can just sit down and stand up, as chaos said. You see it all the time: some girl squatting down to pick up a can off the bottom rack of the grocery aisle, ass to ankles, probably never set foot in a gym.  I would KILL to be able to do that, but I can't.  Trade bodies with me for a day and you won't believe what happens when you 'sit down'... Your body simply doesnt cooperate.  Oh no, what do you do now?  You wouldn't have a clue, I'm sure.

That is a picture perfect squat. And, yes, that is how it is done. But that does not mean everyone can do that.

Just like I know what a picture perfect snatch is or a flawless balance beam performance, but there is no way in hell I could do movements like that.
