I will admit, when I used to see older guys in the gym just wearing a weight belt, I thought they were stupid. But, as I am now in my mid thirties and have had back problems for a while now, I find myself wearing a belt while doing any "pulling" exercise. I use it on back day and bicep day. I feel it gives me better stability and helps hold everything together and keep from getting tweaked. I have my home gym now so not looking like a tool is not a concern of mine and I decided to give it a run. It seems to be working. Does anybody else use one on day's other than squat day?
if you have back problems and you feel it helps you then wear it and who cares what others think. Injury makes you re think some things.

When I saw top Olympic lifters not using a belt to clean and jerk 500lbs I thought why do I need it to deadlift that?

When squatting and deadlifting heavy, yes, otherwise, no need...
Absolutely. Never did heavy deadlifts though.

I'm older but after decades of trying to do full BB squats with a belt I stopped:
1. Had chronic low back pain    2. Made some strength gains , but legs didn't improve much from 'em.
Made better gains from hacks, and heavy DB 1 leg step ups.

Hope this helps.

Step ups I like too. One leg squats standing on a bench holding a db are hard too and save your back.

No. If it hurts back, lower back, I'm doing it wrong/too heavy or shouldn't be doing it.

Agreed

Ive alwasys been taught to only where you belt, tightened where you cant keep it on for more than a few min, during working sets.

I see way too many guys wearing a belt, walk up, do a set, and walk away; never tighteneing or looseneing it.  Whats the purpose there?  Seems like improper usage.

Let's compare best lifts stud. Although I did wear a belt in competition and very heavy training.

Honestly I felt it just stabilized my back and held me in better form. Stepping back squatting with anything over 600 always made me feel as though my 198lb body was going to explode.
