Ahh Bernie... good ole' crazy Bernie...
Now, with that out of the way, as someone who works at a University and sees first hand, how fucked up the system is, I would be up for sensible reforms to help make college more affordable. I'll give you some examples, which are on my mind right now as the new semester is about to spin up:
It's maddening when the exact same textbook that costs $420.00 here in the U.S. has an "international" edition that costs $58... that's an over 700% difference.
It's maddening when the publisher puts out new editions of books, making only slight changes in the problems (think: changing problem numbers, or tweaking the actual values inside in the problem description) essentially requiring students to buy new books, killing the market for old books.
It's maddening when the publisher refuses to offer affordable digital versions of their textbooks but insists that the digital version (that's distributed via a download) costs just as much, if not more than the paper version.
It's maddening when Universities keep adding stupid fee after stupid fee after stupid fee while reducing useful services, and how they milk every last fucking dollar.
Want to rent a book from the library, buy lunch at the cafeteria, use the computers on the campus, visit the registrar to add or drop classes? You need an ID. And the ID costs $15. And oh, it's only good for one year.
