Rory LEIDELMEYER - Did he ever reach his potential?
« on: December 28, 2015, 09:30:19 PM »
Look at these insane pics from his attempted come back (early '90s?).

Wasn't this guy close to 6'2''? Check out that thickness. Holy shit

(if I'm making too many discussion threads let me know, just trying to keep things somewhat bb oriented...)

first time I ever heard him called narrow.   its' too bad they squashed some of the most awesome genetics in the 80's with their pro qualifying system.

Tears for him, Mendenhall, Jeff King, many others, including Burt Reynolds who is now flat broke also.

I think he was a bit narrow structurally. Of course, that's minor compared to all of his strong points.

I never remember him being really ripped like you needed to be in those days.

That last few lbs of subcutaneous water that he couldn't shed really hurt him (and Mendenhall was the same).

It's true that it felt like pro cards seemed incredibly hard to get back then, with people trying year after year to no avail.  If I recall correctly, wasn't Rory's last shot derailed by 'cat scratch fever'?  Or was that just a cover story for something more juicy (he says hopefully :))  e.g. what bodybuilding practice can swell lymph nodes?

According to Coach he had some cancer that derailed a lot of his plans.

He made it on stage for '94 Nats but didn't look on par...

If only he`d have stayed in the h/w class in 81 america instead of dropping to the l/hw class,he`d have beaten Dreher and gone to the worlds in cairo and beat Rosbo and qualified for the 82 olympia.

Who advised him to do otherwise or was it his own choice?

I'd love to read a book by someone like this that actually put it all out there, every damn thing involved in bodybuilding in the 80s, the speed, Coke, gh, roids, gay stuff, whatever.  How they paid their bills and how they think they fucked up, what they may have learned, and whether there's any point at all to it today because it is all so massively about drugs and lies.

Luckily for them they weren't into diuretics.....very unhealthy to look shredded

Jeff King is doing well now, from what I've seen.

Tears for Jeff only in the sense of he should have been on an Olympia stage back then going head to head with Haney and the rest.

Jeff Feliciano.

Why would you take weight class advice from a Spanish singer?  Sure the theme song to Chico and the Man was pretty good, but that doesn't really qualify you to advise on bodybuilding.

That kind of physique would never succeed today. Complete lack of site injection scars and intestine growth.

I think the people who "get it," if they ever do, simply realize it's total bullshit and they simply don't care. It's not worth more of their lives invested.

Jeff Feliciano.

Thanks for posting this coach.  What more do you know about it?  I was wondering if Rory blamed himself for that or his advisor and whether there was any bitterness or resentment due to this or just a "thems the breaks" realization.

I seem to recall it was Rory, Serge Nubret and this guy named Kenny (Cal Hwt competitor) trained together down in OC at Block's gym when I was there.  Never knew him though.
