I recently joined Planet Fitness in Sweden. Apparently, there is only one gym here and it's in the same buildibg where I work.

It's quite good! However, I suspect they are a franchise business that only have the name in common with the US chain, after all the shit I heard about it on getbig.

Overall, I have no problem with Planet Fitness. PF makes it quite clear what population they cater to, and who they want in their gym. They are quite explicit with their rules.

I've worked out at Planet Fitness before. When I was in Florida over the summer, it was close and cheaper to  get a month there than guest passes at  "better" gyms. Deadlifted on the smith machine with 405 and benched with 3+ plates- no issues with management. There were plenty of seriously fit people there, too. You've gotta act like a complete asshole ( like the guy in the video) for them to actually ask you to leave.

Imagine if a gym refused to sign someone up because they were too fat or too thin. They'd get sued and the owner would lose everything he/she owns because of "fat shaming". This kind of double standard is bullshit. If PF is allowed to discriminate against fit people, then there should be gyms out there who are allowed to discriminate against unfit people. Not that I condone that, it would only be fair, however.

I think we're being a little harsh here on Planet Fitness.  To be fair, I've never been in one, nor would I.  I can't imagine working out in such an ugly  environment with everything being that dark purple color.  However, they are appealing to a certain niche.  A niche which looks very out of place in a hardcore gym or a more serious health club.  That niche is of course overweight/older men/women, younger not shapely women, skinny or average build men, etc.   For these folks trying to exercise around guys or girls with way above average bodies can be very uncomfortable and intimidating, and probably not likely to be physically productive.  These folks just want to get some exercise, maybe improve their physiques a little.  So I think it's wrong to criticize Planet Fitness for appealing to these types of individuals.  Conversely, if you're a guy training for the Arnold Classic amateurs, clearly Planet Fitness would not be the best place for you to train.

I was working out at Richie's Gym (in Brooklyn) and had two friends do a guest pass. Wasn't their thing so they insisted upon touring Planet Fatness and I tagged along.

Was pretty lame but I can see how it would appeal to people not much into fitness or on odd schedules. Chick doing the tour insisted upon showing me the tanning booth.... idiot!

The Planet Fitness I attended had A LOT of fit people, and even men who were quite built.

the guy in that video is a fucking idiot and would be tossed out of any gym, even a so called serious or hardcore one for treating the smith machine or any other piece of equipment like that ie abusing it

Have you seen their ads? Imagine a gym putting out ads laughing at fat people wanting to work out at their gym.

Its only allowed because fit people are a huge minority in North America. Being fit is a choice and requires hard work. Hard work is something people aren't willing to do on a daily basis and, out of jealousy, decide that being fit means you're a target for harassment without consequence. This used to be the case with obese people, until they became the norm. Now everyone gets butthurt if you say that you're not into "curvy" women. I put curvy in quotes because it went from meaning a woman with thick thighs and wide hips (something I, myself, enjoy) to meaning a land whale who overdosed on Twinkies. But unlike fat people, fit people don't get as upset at this kind of stuff because we realize the fatsos are only lashing out because they have no willpower and we do. Which makes them hate themselves, so to console their lard-dipped hearts they tell themselves they're beautiful and that mainstream beauty is just a social construct pushed by the media. Nothing to do with biology at all.

They aren't and they don't. When I was in Florida, there were actually two MPD competitors working out there, as well as several other very fit guys and girls. What they do is sell an environment that is not meant to be intimidating to average gym-goers.

No discrimination going on here:

Guy doesn't even look big enough to be a mens physique competitors, and they don't want "his kind" there. I guess having any muscle and flabs is just too intimidating for PF goers...

LOL That should clue you in that they are not discriminating based on physical appearance. They are very clear about the fact that they are trying to create a non-intimidating gym environment.
