it's a ferrigno, they don't make them like that anymore, i actually had two sold one for 50 bucks 3 years ago..purchased in like 1980...off of lou's dad matty..when i bought it matty tried to demonstrate it and wacked his head on the wall behind him.i also bought a plate-loading lat machine off him that day... matty cut his hand when he picked it up wrong.... memories. ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

Very minimalistic, a big empty space with no equipment..

The other side are benches Dumbbells, pull down, seated row, chest supported row, strongman equipment atlas stones, farmers walk handles, heavy bags, bench press, bands, chains, specialty bars, GHR, York squat stand, bumper plates, vertex, tires, sleds, Plyo boxes, box squat boxes, and a shit load more. We have very little use for machines for what we do. The open area is purposely open for warm up and mobility.

"Highly sensitive people are often taken for introverts, and, as with introverts, social interaction depletes them. But in fact they react strongly to everything in their environment. As a result, they need and typically seek extra processing time to sort out their experience." (no homo)

Yeah, but that doesn't sound like the average gym rat.  :D :D

You forgot to include (no irony) ;)

Anyway, I've got to admit that I'm 'surrounding sensitive' as well. My previous gym was like a showroom with too much distraction like staring folks & a fucking sidewalk cafe in the center. It had brand new, but shitty equipment from Hoist & Sportsart, though everything was there. Since a year of 4-5 I train in a small old school place (old church building/old equipment/no group lessons) and most of my workouts are great.

I been to a few golds here. Haven't been to that one tho. Have you been to the one on Anderson mill? That one sucks balls. I feel ya I'm only paying 35 bucks a month.

Compared to the Cedar Park location, Anderson Mill is heaven.

Way too hot climate over there, but that gym looks awesome. You've been there yourself, Dutch cowboy?

Nah, I've only been to the west coast, got family there that emigrated to California.....did visit Muscle Beach Venice though.....haha.

Crossfit isnt a real gym. Just losers running around doing stupid bad form shit as their "trainers" milk their wallets.
How's that different than every other gym?

My home gym has the same amount of dedicated members: 3. Although my son appears to be "deloading" and doing nothing. I got a glorious 2 hour (yes, TWO HOURS) workout on NY day and only got kicked out by my gym-monopolizing wife. For reference, the benefits of a home gym:

- train shirtless and shoeless (and even better, pant-less)
- minimal commute
- your music on the loudspeakers (Or absolute silence if needed)
- ESPN on the TV (or Porntube on the monitor)
- nobody says "are you on that?"
- curl in the squat rack
- funky equipment that most people don't know how to use (Or basic equipment that most in gyms dont know how to use either)
- some gym equipment is great for athletic sex (or just a flat bench and mirror to jack off with, see Porntube statement above)
- drop the DBs if you want to
- there's only one douchebag on his iPhone, and he's in the mirror, checking out Getbig (Or jerking off, as mentioned above)
- the only dues are sweat, pain and the straight-line depreciation of capital expenses
- Drink beer in gym if need be

A few additions above in bold...  :o

Love training in my home gym...

Yeah, Its basically one side of my downstairs level of the house (2 car under the house garage, other side is my band room/music studio).
Pic taken from driveway.
Getting an additional garage (attached with mudroom) with overhead loft in the spring, and that old garage will be a closed off part of the house.

I never understood how people are affected by the atmosphere of a gym. ??? I've trained in all different types of gyms. In really fancy gyms, to absolute shit holes. I've gotten in good workouts in each type of atmosphere. I don't know, the whole "hardcore" atmosphere doesn't really matter. Weights are weights. As long as you bring good knowledge and train intensely, your body doesn't care. I think this whole notion of gym atmosphere is hyped up to an extent. You can get a good workout in no matter where you go.

BINGO! Great post about a genuine training attitude !

However, the silver sneakers chair aerobics class with the blue haired babes can be a gym atmosphere downer.

modular houses are popping up all over SW Florida thanks to cheap land.   Longtime homeowner neigbors are batshit angry over it.

they're practically trailers, without the wheels.
