I'm not talking about veto power, I'm talking about executive action.

Mandatory background checks were already proposed by Obama.  The Senate voted it down.  Which leads us to where we are now.  Obama is unhappy that they voted it down, so he says, "Fuck it, I'll just executive action it!"

Kind of seems like a mild dictatorship.  POTUS proposes bills, and if they pass, he's happy.  If they don't pass, he just executive actions them.  Either way, he's going to get what he wants.

 ???

Prerogative of power, whereby a king issues suspensions of laws and proclaims new ones, bypassing parliament and judges.  POTUS is doing just this, but congress is not asserting its power, and the SCOTUS does nothing until a case gets to them.

I visited my gf's family in Memphis 2 months ago, gun shop offered to sell me a small arsenal that i'd be allowed to take home that same day, as long as i left my driver's license for an eventual background check. If i was keen on a suicide run they'd be loads of dead folks in a some shitty Walmart. That's fucking mental

The problem is that if you sell a gun you must become a licensed dealer. So I couldn't sell my buddy a gun. From my understanding you have to get the license to hand down guns to family members such as your kids

This is not true.  You do not have to become a dealer.  You just have to file a 4473.  People do it all the time in the present.  There are a few states that require background checks for private party sales.  The individuals involved in the transaction meet at an FFL.  The FFL performs the 4473 for a fee, and the parties exchange firearms.

HTH!

i'm a British national with forgiven military service(Israel), I sound English and look like i could be Arabic.

I'm fine with background checks being executed prior to sale completion.

^ being said: Do you really want a $13/hour Walmart employee deciding who should get anything based upon looks and whatever impression they get?

Personally, I fail to see how background checks will stop criminals. I'm guessing the people who advocate this believe fewer legal guns will translate into fewer illegally owned/acquired in the very long term.

With what records? On most of these "refugees" there is little if any back ground documentation. But in the US we have documentation up the ass on everybody. Take for instance Tashfeen Malik, not the womans real name. (Tashfeen Malik (King) is a nom de guerre for a Muslim Jihadist from the annals of Muslim history. As he is known to Muslims “تاشفين ملك الموحدين” Tashfeen Malik Al-Muahideen, in English: Tafhseen King of the Unitarians (Muslims) and the conquerer of the west. The history stems from when Yusuf ibn Tashfin led the Muslim forces in the Battle of Zallaqa/Sagrajas. He came to Andalusia from Morocco to help the Muslims fight against Alfonso VI, eventually achieving victory and allowing the Muslims to remain in Spain for centuries. The battle has been symbolic for Muslim victory against the Christians.) A fine vetting job  ::)

More to the point most of these fuckers have 3 or 4 different alias's.

Agree drkaje.

I am fine with mandatory criminal background checks and closing the gun show loophole, but a whole lot of liberals want to take gun restrictions farther.  I read some of the assault weapons ban bill, it went way farther than reported on the news clips.  They tried to totally reclassify assault guns and include a ton of weapons.  There were a tremendous amount of other restrictions and rules buried in the bill that people wouldn't have known until became law.  Thankfully lawmakers and other organizations read what they were trying to get by us.  I believe they will try it again.
No, I don't feel safer at all.  Mass shootings are usually mental health issues, terrorists or extremists.

Obama tried to imply online gun sales don't go through background checks, which is untrue.  All online gun sales eventually go through a dealer/store for pickup and background check is done.

Why doesn't the president get this upset when illegals kill our citizens.  Why did the left vote down restrictions on sanctuary cities and being harsher on illegal felons?
Despicable.

do you understand what the word vet means? if i tell the dmv my name is john smith and it's really joe smith, i dont get a license. Are you really that daft? guess what? the ones without concrete records don't pass step one.

more so are you really commenting without knowing the vetting process? do you understand how ignorant that is?

1)firstly it gets started with the UN.
step one is refugee interviews, home country reference checks and biological screening

2) if they pass, only a small small percentage of them get approved for international relocation. basically anyone who's a special interest group. Torture, sexual violence, political persecution, multiple children, a female head of household.

3) and after they're recommended to america by the UN, the us govt does their own vetting(again confirming their identity or they get told to fuck off). most likely they'll be told to fuck off unless they've proven to be employable or already have family here.

4) then they get turned over to dhs, fbi, cia and the dod, where they're screened again. all along confirming their identity

So far 55% of all Syrian refugees are children under 10 and 25% of them are past the retirement age.

Despicable.
because by every recognizable metric without exception, "incarceration rates among young men are lowest for immigrants."

Illegal immigrants commit murders are a rate much much much lower than the national average. why bother with the lest important group first?

I'm daft and I just gave you an example of the fine vetting job that was done. Someone that came in and killed Americans.  How exactly can you confirm an identity when there is little to no documentation or records? What about the 9/11 Hijackers? They were Vetted weren't they?

Oh I feel much better now, so the screening for all the others trying to enter the country sucks ass. You have just boosted my confidence in .gov ability to vet people  ::)

I guess you missed the irony.........
