A lot of young leftist, to some degree, have similar views.  It is scary and very common thinking in colleges.  The idea that, in general people are good by nature, they are just oppressed or poor that cause them to do bad things.  They believe, despite thousands of years of fighting and insane religion, that the US has caused a lot of the terrorism in the middle east with our policies.  They live in a protected little world where they have no true physical struggles or threats of true bodily harm.

I actually do believe that most people are good in general.

That doesn't mean you ignore the reality in front of you.

Most of the college leftist mentality gets straightened out once the students graduate and/or flunk out, get a job, and start paying taxes.  It is so much easier to be generous with other people's resources than with one's own.

This. People underestimate how damaging feminism has been to the Western World.  There is a correlation between Western civilisation's decline and the rise of feminism.  You have to wonder if the Islamic world has funded feminism in the West to slowly weaken them and make them vulnerable.

I think people want to believe people are good in general, but humanities perpetual warring history would lead to a different conclusion.  I think Freud and others highlighted how there are hidden dark forces lurking in the individual's psyche that no matter how much we try and contain them they occasionally rise to the surface and raise hell.
