like to see heath,green,cutler etal do this pose. ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
Every bit as strong as he looked.. reminds me of Steve Reeves pose "perfection in the clouds"(picture) his signature pose. I read Grimek was also very agile doing handstands and such. Indeed Reeves lost to him in a contest because of this or so it is written but Stunt will know i am sure.

Ugh.  The Philsbury Schmoeboy is a disgusting blob of drugs, water and crap.  Aesthetic?  Hardly.  Like others in what passes for today's bodybuilding he is more assthetic.

Sorry brother.  Phil sucks.

that is an OLD, off season pic!

One of my favourites is Frank zane. His poses were Greek Olympian poses. like a Greek marble statue. Mass is another animal but for sheer posing ability and grace Frank Zane... Ed Corney i liked too.

Zane and Corney were greats because they built their physiques around their strengths.  Neither were meant to be big guys and so they weren't.  They refined their physiques and as a result had great lines and great condition.  The taller guys like Arnold and Draper were bigger guys but that was natural for them because of their height.  They didn't get hung up on numbers, such as being 300lbs.  Most of today's pros are no taller than Zane but they are 50-80 lbs heavier.  They all try to be cookie cutter copies of each other.  no one should be 5'7 and 250lbs.  We trash today's pros, and rightfully so....but the mass monsters from the mid 90s are really the ones who started this.

DONNY, I can't say anything too accurate about Grimek vs. Reeves way back then, mainly due to the fact that Reeves was a home-town-boy in the San Fran Bay Area (homie??) whom anyone who lifted heavy things kew about or had met or had trained with  .... while Grimek was lifting heavy things back east someplace around York Pa with the likes of Hoffman, Starr, etc.

And I can sort of, kinda, but do not totally, remember that some extra activity was held to make that decision between  Reeves and Grimek ... which reminds me that years ago when Pete G. was competing in the America .... there was a judging phase in which the contenders sat in a chair in a private room with the judging staff and responded to various questions.

Before anyone jumps to adverse remarks ... those questions were just simple questions to see how well the contestant would respond in public as the current Mr America.

In order to keep my usual excessive banter going ... I had the opportunity to meet Mr.  Grimek and Mr. Hoffman and Bob Bernardski and sat with Mr Grimek during some Olympic Lifting Championships and he was definitely gruff and outspoken and possibly the first GetBigger of all times.

He would have fit in here pretty damn well!

I'll also briefly mention this ..... The Hawaii Olympic Lfiting Team headed by Tommy Kono beat the York Olympic Lifting Team at one time or another and I understand that Mr Hoffman got very upset.

But I was not there to verify it, so consider it to be a rumor only until another GetBigger who wasn't even born yet says, "Yep! It's true!"
