Can static flexing stimulate muscle?
« on: January 10, 2016, 09:09:40 AM »
A friend of mine from work recently had to get a cast on his arm from a shoulder surgery. He knows I'm into working out, so he was telling me how he was worried about atrophy in that arm and was wondering if continually flexing it and holding it for a few minutes would help the muscle to grow or at least slow down atrophy. The way his cast is, his arm is bent kind of like if his bicep was contracted. I thought this was an interesting question but I'm not really sure of the answer. I would think flexing is at least better than nothing, right?

Phil Cheath engages in flexing after eat set, and in between meals. That is why his arms are so big.

He'd be better off preparing mentally for the disgusting twig that'll come out of that cast.

The rumor also goes that there's a strong magnetic field between his knife and fork with progressive overload and non-linear periodization features

I would tell your friend that he's not a professional athlete, and to let his arm heal and it will eventually recover, and not worry about stupid shit.

Isometric training should preserve strength and size better that nothing, but it won't be magic. That being said, something like your friend's injured arm should regain muscle size, and relatively much of its strength quickly once it's healed. Take it slow, in reality, it will only be a few months.

Flexing relatively hard will interfere with the healing process.

Consider the intense static flexing of the anus that occurs when some 85 yr constipated old biddy tries  take a dump.
If static flexing built muscle, her anus would be as tight as a 12 yr old choir boy, but, it's not.

Trust me on this .
