You can eat at anytime as long as you stay within your caloric limit for fat loss. I eat before bed and during the middle of the night. I'm still losing fat cause I know how many calories I can eat.

165 @ 13% body fat is not good homie
i will advice you to drop the body fat to at least 10 and then start bulking with a clean diet

trust me it will take a lil more work but is all worth it at the end

good luck

There no evidence that the way we digest food or store it varies based on the clock.

metabolic rate effects how food is stored, yes? wouldn't eating before sleeping (even though its more metabolic than sitting in a chair) be less efficient than not? ..assuming that one had a lifestyle more active than sitting on ass most of the day.

You grow when you are sleeping...if you are training hard you should have some protein before you go to sleep...if you are trying to lose fat then you need to add muscle, and if you are trying to add muscle then you should not go 6- 8(the time you sleep) hours without protein.Just watch the carbs at night (except the meal after your workout,in which case you obviously must take in some carbs)

Really?
I must have heard a 1000 times that carbs be4 bed are bad.

I usually have some cottage cheese (like 500 g) at 9 or 10. With some apple chopped in, or some sugar or aspartame. Gotto give your muscle some protein to grow imo.

I must have heard a 1000 times that carbs be4 bed are bad.

The myth has been said so many times that it must be true, right?  ::)

The reason everyone thinks it's true is because people make lousy choices at night with snacking on crap and going over the amount of calories needed for the day.

Why do we eat every 3-4 hours throughout the day and then think going 12 hours without food would be a good thing?  Our metabolic rate increases and heat is produced after eating a meal (protein & carbs).  It's called the thermic effect.  The thermic effect is reduced by less frequent eating.  Keep the process going.  Eat before bed and when you first get up.  It also helps keep your insulin levels more stable.

I don't think she said carbs, and eating a plate of pasta before bed is sure a helluva lot different than a protein shake and mixed nuts before bed.  You certainly don't need that post prandial insulin secretion while in bed, so if you're going to have carbs before bed stick to slow burning low glycemic carbs like oatmeal, yams, brown rice etc.
just not good enough

i'd been having this burning sensation in my stomach

Yeah, that's the feeling you get when your body starts cannibalizing itself, eating up muscle and organ tissue due to a lack of food.  Yes, eating before bed is good, protein + fiber, or protein + good fats.  All in moderation of course.

Nothing wrong with eating before bed...this is a good thing for anyone to do who has any level of fitness or BB goals. When I am in diet/comp prep mode I wake up at night and have a small meal and go back to sleep.

i follow an easy rule of thumb on this 1,

If im tryna make gains / add weight - most definately including significant carbs
If im tryna maintain eat small with not too many carbs, maybe can of tuna and milk
If dieting - just a shake.

Seems to work for me but then everyones different

No, the reason carbs before bedtime are bad is twofold:

1.  Increased insulin response obviously equates to greater fat retention during immobility, and
2.  Increased insulin can affect other hormone activities necessary during sleep.

I just eat protein before bed whether or not im dieting.  Correct me if i'm wrong

Probably right Coltrane, but i just seem to lose too much size if i consistently cut carbs before i go to bed. and i wake up feeling like i aint eaten for about 3 days! as i say everyone is different i suppose
