Inventing a New Type of Gym Machine
« on: January 17, 2016, 09:46:05 AM »
I think we should take the massive brainpower and experience of Getbig and try to use it constructively to come up with new types of gym equipment.  I'm sick of hearing about the biceps supinator invented a hundred years ago.  It has not all been invented, not even close.

My idea is for a kind of back machine where you can do a "rowing" chin-up while lying on your back facing the ceiling.  Works off of body weight but can also load plates like Hammer for extra resistance.

We don't need machine for that. They're called inverted rows. We do them all the time

The one and only. Basile just needs to add a few more attachments, in order to make his bicep supination machine a multi-dimensional piece of equipment. There has to be some way to turn his bicep supinator into a chest, tricep, shoulder, back, and leg machine. You know, like a transformer.

I use rings and a weighted vest for variety.

So what muscles or muscle groups does it exactly train apart from maybe the sphincter?

Great idea however I see several potential problems.

The biggest of which is this bicep machine is noted for its simplicity. Adding to it or adjusting it would take it from being an effective and efficient isolater of the bicep supination to just another cumbersome piece of gym equipment taking up space.

It's simple design is its greatest quality.

Yeah, it's unwieldy using standard gym equipment.  Doesn't get to the belly of the muscles in the midback region.  I think it can be done much better and with easier addition to body weight with a simple contraption.  We aren't in the critical stage now, we are in the dreaming/exploring stage of the creativity loop.

Hmmmm, excellent points. Well, then it looks like we are going to have to contract Basile to build us individual machines for each body part!

Basile would never build a machine for such flotsam and jetsam!

I always wanted a chest machine where you could lock/change/rotate the hand position

With a fleshflight option

This is an Awesome idea!  But we need to identify for each body part the secret or the key to development analogous to "supination" for the biceps.  For chest I believe it is and overextension past body midpoint for fly type exercises.  You need to be able to push another six inches range of motion past center point.

What is it for the other body parts?

I've thought about a vest or vest-type belt harness that helps keep the back straight while deadlifting. Imagine a regular belt with a harness that goes up your back and then straps to your shoulders and keeps them pulled back.

I know a lot of people that have wrecked their backs from deads.

Not too sure, but this is why we need to contract Basile. He is the expert. We need to heed his advice.

I have so many fitness related ideas.  I am prolific in ideas but never follow through.  Feel free to use them to make a million dollars.  Here is another idea.  Like my gym, I think many many gyms across the country are situated in complexes that also have restaurants serving breakfast through dinner.  But my experience is that very few of these restaurants capitalize in anyway on the gym traffic.  I think all of these places could add to their traffic and sales by offering fitness/bodybuilding specific choices in addition to their normal menu.  Kind of like how the Firehouse in Venice does for Golds.  It wouldn't cost much to offer a limited group of low fat healthy choices.  You could come up with a "fitness menu" and promotional materials to hang in the windows of both places.  Ask for a small percentage and charge for the pre prepared marketing materials.

Well it looks to me it does exactly the opposite.
It disburdens the forearms if you ask me.

See this is exactly the kind of thinking I'm talking about.  There was a time before the Inzer shirt, a time before the preacher bench.

Yep, we use bands, a thick rope, TRX, vests, chains, elevated feet (on a box or bench)
