This happened to me about two weeks ago...
We have an awesome hyper extension at the gym.
I’ve used it dozens of times. Hits my lower back perfect.
Well, this one morning I wasn’t paying attention as I was positioning myself. So I get in it, and put my feet between the foot/ankle pads. Or at least that’s what I thought I did.
In reality, I put my feet on the top set of pads. My hands on still on the bars holding me up. Everything felt the same as usual, and it didn’t register that I didn’t feel the pads against my ankles.
So, when I let go of my hands, flexing my back and expecting to go up... instead (because my feet weren’t locked in) I pretty much flip over the front of the machine. And damn, I would never have imagined I could have picked up so much speed in so little distance. Gravity is a bitch!
I landed on my left forearm/elbow. Had I landed on my head I could have seriously caused some damage. As is, tore up my forearm a little. What made it worse…
This is the only part of the gym that doesn’t have padding. I landed on concrete. And not even smooth concrete. This has ripples in it, so it tore into my shirt a bit. Fortunately I was wearing a sweatshirt, so no blood. Otherwise, would not have been a pretty site.
I immediately just started laughing at myself and then looked around to see if anyone witnessed my forward extension. Nobody in site (one of the advantages of going to the gym at 5:00 am).
Had someone been videoing me, I would have made it onto pretty much every Gym Fail video from this day froward.
