What's your biggest gym fail ?
« on: January 17, 2016, 04:27:06 PM »
For me (Howard) , it's pretty simple:
I walk into a new gym and  suddenly , it sucks to workout there.  :o

Lol, like we don't know you're talking about yourself when referring to yourself.

When I'm in the gym and open my iPad between sets and see another inane Howard thread.

I was in the squat rack with an uncollared 405 on bar (I was in a new gym in a new city, i knew no one). I was midset when  I took my hands off the bar and placed them on my hips, as I was coming up the weight fell off my shoulders bounced off the rack and flipped into the empty cage next to me. It was loud!

People wandered over to see what happened and if I was ok..... I tried to play it off but it was pretty embarrassing.

Good one !

I was doing V bar pull-downs , the V handle came loose and I yanked it straight into my nose.
I actually gave myself a bloody nose and damn near knocked myself out.
The gym was packed and a bunch of people saw me and cracked up.

As usual, it sucks to be me.

Only one?.....lol

Me and two friends benching....I'm spotting.  My turn.  I grab the bar and slide onto the bench from the spotter spot...and the whole fucking thing tips backwards.  Thankfully only 135 on the bar.

Benching on home gym.  Get stuck....bar drops...into my mouth....somehow force it down to my chest and yell........MOM runs down and dumps weight off to side.

Chinups at gym from bar that was hanging by chain....one breaks, I drop to floor standing and the bar swings down and slams me in the side of the head.

In school, my friend was my spotter and a sweaty bastard, so he always tried to drop sweat drops in my eyes when he was spotting me on bench.  When it was successful I'd be pinned under the weight.

This happened to me about two weeks ago...

We have an awesome hyper extension at the gym.

I’ve used it dozens of times. Hits my lower back perfect.

Well, this one morning I wasn’t paying attention as I was positioning myself. So I get in it, and put my feet between the foot/ankle pads. Or at least that’s what I thought I did.

In reality, I put my feet on the top set of pads. My hands on still on the bars holding me up. Everything felt the same as usual, and it didn’t register that I didn’t feel the pads against my ankles.

So, when I let go of my hands, flexing my back and expecting to go up... instead (because my feet weren’t locked in) I pretty much flip over the front of the machine. And damn, I would never have imagined I could have picked up so much speed in so little distance. Gravity is a bitch!

I landed on my left forearm/elbow. Had I landed on my head I could have seriously caused some damage. As is, tore up my forearm a little. What made it worse…

This is the only part of the gym that doesn’t have padding. I landed on concrete. And not even smooth concrete. This has ripples in it, so it tore into my shirt a bit. Fortunately I was wearing a sweatshirt, so no blood. Otherwise, would not have been a pretty site.

I immediately just started laughing at myself and then looked around to see if anyone witnessed my forward extension. Nobody in site (one of the advantages of going to the gym at 5:00 am).

Had someone been videoing me, I would have made it onto pretty much every Gym Fail video from this day froward.

This was pretty bad but not entirely my fault.

I had the leg press loaded with over 10 plates each side. I took them all off one side first and the leg press tipped over. The sound that made...

Those machines are supposed to be bolted down, had someone been standing next to it, that would have been the last of him.

Leg press. At the bottom I let out a rip. I get the weight up and turn my head. Everyone heard. Then the smell. Solid 20' radius.

I went to the gym and was talking junk about being able to bench 575, but I got cocky and benched 570 for 12 reps and didn't have anything left to bench 575 even once.  Boy, was my face red.

Last week I was looking for an ez curl bar but someone was using it. I found this crazy ez curl bar in the back of the gym. I loaded it up and promptly smacked my self in the forehead with the bend in the bar. I saw stars.

Why would you take all the plates off one side even if it was bolted to the ground?  That is inconceivable to me.  I have much too much of a distrusting nature to assume something won't break.  Are you an edge player by nature?

That mean take crazy risks? Not really and not in the gym.
Besides that one time, lol...

But I also thought the weight of the machine itself would keep it in place.

One time when I was really young (under 18) and benching alone (another mistake!!!) I had to ROLL 235lb down my chest, over my legs until I could get up!!!
I had bruises & scrapes all the way down pretty much!!!

There are usually no women in my gym.  Once, this hot piece of ass showed up out of nowhere, so I kept chatting her up, but wasn't getting the vibe.  She kept looking nervously at this older dude across the room.

Then I realized I had gone into _aj_'s basement instead of mine by accident.

When I was young maybe 18 at the gym just starting out I had to bench the same weight like the guy before me lol.
After like 3 strange reps I had to roll it down over my whole body since it was too heavy.
Might have been like 200 lbs.
LOL.
I was glad no one noticed.

Not bad.
Had no side-effects though apart from embarassment.

After re-racking 180kg, I had already taken a step back, but apparently the bar had some whip to it still so the plates on one side slid off.
I basically froze in disbelieve as I saw the bar tip over to one side not sure whether I should attempt to even catch it or whatever.

This was also on a monday morning when there're only a bunch of old people in the gym... This one grandma in particular gave me the deathstare, or it was simply her post-stroke face.

Smashed my dick between two 100lb Dumbbells while doing lateral raises then having an ugly ass nurse insert the catheter.

The cable snapped on a lat pulldown and the bar came crashing into my forehead. I was a bloody mess and needed 7 stitches. I probably could have sued the gym but the owner was cool and gave me a free year on my membership.
