Seriously, any young guys here should be moving in to computer programming if they have any sense

"Robots are likely to be performing 45% of manufacturing tasks by 2025, versus just 10% today, according to a study by Bank of America. And the rise of artificial intelligence will only accelerate that process as the number of devices connected to the Internet doubles to 50 billion by 2020.
By the same year, nearly half of all U.S. jobs will be at high risk of being lost to computers, according to experts at Oxford University, with an additional 20% facing medium risk. Jobs previously thought of as secure and now considered at risk include data analysts and bankers."

not long ago at work we stripped anything useful off a machine that cost half a million pound and was slower than the human labour it was designed to replace. In some cases it's not alway better.

also Will create more jobs/work for those of us paid to fix shit when it goes tits up.

Yes, but the amount of people needed to fix the machine LARGELY fails in comparison to the amount of people that will be fired. I mean, realistically speaking, you can send one guy to fix a machine if it breaks down in a warehouse. And its not like these machines will be breaking every single day. In the end, it will terminate more jobs than create new ones.

people doing manual labour and repetetive simple tasks sure

my job requires thinking, being creative and making choices which a computer could not unless it had an AI on par with humans, which will take much longer than that, probably 50+ years or more

yes true.
I think most of us will be ok as long as we have a job requiring some form of thought, planning or decision making

Even this is done already using computers/machines.

The Hollywood motion picture business may be into this also.

It will soon be common to film an actor on a set for an hour or so. No acting required. Just the actor's image in numerous positions.

And then have the computer 'manipulate' that actor's image as required by the script.

This can all be done in a room the size of your kitchen.

Nothing other than a camera, a computer, and a blue screen in the background.

Add the actor, the director, the camera guy, and the computer technician ... and get ready to accept  an Oscar or two.
