The Cleveland Cavaliers have fired coach David Blatt, sources confirmed to ESPN.

The title-hopeful Cavaliers lead the Eastern Conference at 30-11 but were blown out by the defending champion Golden State Warriors earlier this week.

Blatt leaves the Cavaliers, his first NBA coaching job, with a 83-40 record.

Yahoo! Sports first reported Blatt's firing.

Wow!

There were obviously issues between he and the team, it was apparent during the GSW blowout the other night.

Firing him midseason to let Tyrone Lou run the team will be interesting.

They want Calipari BAD. Its no secret that is the guy Lebron wants. Personally, id like Mark Jackson

I don't get the Cal fascination,other than he can coach/manage talent and recruit free agents. But he's Lebrons guy so....

Mark Jackson would be a nice hire but I think this team and its personalities would eat him alive.

I dont get the Calipari thing either. He was a BAD coach for MJ but if you have Lebron, it doesnt take much to win

He will get the same amount of playing time as Blatt did.

I feel for Blatt though because he didn't think he was getting a veteran team, he was hired to coach Kyrie, Wiggins, and Waiters. Lebron never respected Blatt.

Nails is right though, this Warriors team will not be denied. Curry will have to be injured for Cleveland to have any chance. Its like GSW is playing a completely different game than everyone else. They're a buzz saw, that no one saw coming. I thought they'd take a step back last season, thinking the clippers and thunder would battle it out for the west, and now it looks like those two have had their windows closed.

my guess on the only exciting playoff series this year , will be between the warriors and spurs , if the spurs find a way to pull it off then Cavs vs Spurs will be exciting , if Warriors win, then its a clear blowout all the way for the Warriors on their back to back championship run

Mike, this goes back to the complete fucked up nature of Cleveland sports. I know they hired Blatt a month or so before James announced he was going to Cleveland but at that point they could have made a change. When you get James, Irving and Love together, why the fuck would you want a rookie NBA coach? At that point they could have paid Phil $10-12 mill to coach or got another veteran coach. Wasted years by Cleveland.

Great point, they ended up eating the money anyhow. The rumors were always that LeBron was coming back, why not wait to hire a coach and see what would happen, no one else was hiring Blatt anyhow, his best offer at that point was as to be an assistant coach.

Lebron is not going to listen to any coach. He's shown that throughout his career. All he wants to do is dribble around running down the shot clock. The teams he's played on have never been "smoothly" run.

lebron is one of the biggest cry babies and ego maniacs ever to step foot in the nba, cleveland will never win a championship with him there.

this is basically "his" team. they should just name lebron the head coach as well
