Trump refuses to debate

http://news.yahoo.com/trump-refuses-debate-calls-foxs-kelly-lightweight-005649026--election.html

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (AP) -- Donald Trump on Tuesday bowed out of the final Republican presidential debate before the leadoff Iowa caucuses, saying Fox News moderator Megyn Kelly is "a lightweight."

With 48 hours to go before the faceoff, campaign manager Corey Lewandowski confirmed Trump's decision Tuesday evening after a press conference in which Trump lashed out at Kelly and said she'd been "toying" with him.

"He will not be participating in the Fox News debate Thursday," Lewandowski said immediately after the press conference.

Trump, who called his decision "pretty close to irrevocable" in the press conference, said he'd hold an Iowa event at the same time as the debate to raise money for wounded veterans. Iowa hosts the nation's opening presidential primary contest on Monday.

"With me, they're dealing with somebody that's a little bit different. They can't toy with me like they toy with everybody else," he said. "Let them have their debate and let's see how they do with the ratings."

He added, "Why do I have to make Fox rich?"

On Tuesday night's airing of her Fox News show, "The Kelly File," Kelly said she'll be at the debate, which will "go on with or without Mr. Trump."

The Republican National Committee said the decision was up to Trump.

"Obviously we would love all of the candidates to participate, but each campaign ultimately makes their own decision what's in their best interest," said RNC chief strategist Sean Spicer.

Trump had suggested he might skip the Fox debate earlier in the day, drawing a sarcastic statement from the television network that "the Ayatollah and Putin both intend to treat Donald Trump unfairly when they meet with him if he becomes president."

"A nefarious source tells us that Trump has his own secret plan to replace the Cabinet with his Twitter followers to see if he should even go to those meetings," the Fox statement said.

A Fox spokesman did not immediately respond to Trump's decision.

The New York real estate mogul's presence has helped produce massive ratings in the previous six Republican presidential debates. His decision leaves seven candidates to share the primetime stage Thursday: Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul.

"Let them have their debate. I'm going to raise money during that period of time for the wounded warriors and for the vets. Let Fox play its games," Trump said.

He added, "I don't think Iowa's gonna care."

At the very least, the high-profile debate feud serves as a major distraction in the Republican contest just six days before Iowa voters cast the first votes in the 2016 primary contest.

Trump, now locked in a tight race with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, has proven to be a master of commanding media attention at key moments. Among other things, he has called for a temporary ban on all Muslim immigrants and later questioned Cruz's presidential eligibility given that he was born in Canada.

The provocative declarations have often left little oxygen in the race for his opponents.

I think this hurts him, I don't know if it keeps him from winning but I don't think voters will like it

Could very well prove to be a brilliant move. They were gunning for Trump in this one.

Google and Fox TV Invite Anti-Trump Muslim Advocate to Join Next GOP TV-Debate

Fox News and Google have invited three YouTube personalities to ask questions at the Jan. 28 GOP debate — including a Muslim advocate who describes Donald Trump as a bigot and who visually portrayed him as being in agreement with national socialist Adolf Hitler.

“We have a presidential candidate whose loudest message reeks of hatred and Islamophobia… turning on the news now is scary, and oftentimes, humiliating,” the Muslim woman, Nabela Noor, says in a December YouTube video.

She admits to becoming a Muslim political activist amid the growing criticism of Islam’s doctrines. “The current social environment for Muslims today is not safe or just… as a Muslim American, I felt like I needed to use my voice,” she claimed.

Noor also urged her YouTube viewers to rally against critics of Islam. “I’m so thankful for those who speak up and out against anti-Islamic speech and ideologies. Our community needs more allies like you, but we have a long way to go,” she said.

The two companies announced Tuesday afternoon that the anti-Trump Muslim advocate would be allowed to play a role in the debate.

Google is teaming up with the Fox News Channel for the final  Republican debate in Iowa on Thursday, January 28, 2016, and integrating three new components into the debate to help people get informed before they head to the polls, including a way to hear directly from candidates on Google; real-time Google Trends data; and questions from three of YouTube’s most prominent voices—Nabela Noor, Mark Watson, and Dulce Candy — who will join the moderators in the debate to ask the candidates a question on an issue that matters to them and their communities.

The Republican National Committee also approved the choice of Noor, an LA.-based press aide for YouTube, said Jackie Cavanagh, at MPRM Communications. “I believe” she was chosen by YouTube, with help from the RNC and Fox, she said. “

“YouTube creators were selected in collaboration with Fox based on things such as audience size and their ability to bring a new, fresh perspective to the most important issues of our time. Fox informed the party/candidates of the format,” said a p.r. person.

Allison Moore, a press secretary for the RNC, told Breitbart that “We had nothing to do with that.”

Irena Briganti, a spokeswoman for Fox, also did not respond.

Trump gets butthurt, takes his ball home, because a shitty tv host was 'mean' to him in a debate?

A little thin skinned there.

Will trump make a last minute deal for drama's sake and 'save the day' by showing up?

Do the loyal Trumpets somehow call this a major victory?  (oh brother)

I do think that he will make a deal that favors him at the end. He will use it to illustrate how he can make deals.

FLASHBACK: Ronald Reagan Skipped Last Debate Before IA Caucus – Went on to Win in Landslide

Trump isn't the first top-tier presidential candidate to skip a debate. Ronald Reagan did not attend a Republican debate ahead of the 1980 Iowa caucuses, which he lost to George H.W. Bush. Reagan went on to the win the nomination and the presidency.

sounds accurate.

FOX mocked him on twitter leading up to it.  what a shit network.  'fair and balanced'... um, nope.

reagan's reasons were way more dignified than Trump and bimbo comments.  He's doing everything to try to pretend he's reagan with this move.   I bet he planned it all along.  everything else has been planned.

Also Trump is losing weight... face looking leaner.  I bet he's upping the salads and smoothies to look lean.

Maybe no one is interested in the other liars.

But Trump may still show.  The quote I heard from him left it open.

FLASHBACK: Watch Donald Trump Say Debate Skippers Lacked "Courage"

In 2011, Donald Trump was scheduled to moderate a debate on Newsmax TV. During the preparations for the debate Trump went on with Megyn Kelly and lamented that only two candidates had agreed to be in the Des Moines debate at the end of December, days before the Iowa Primary. ....

Megyn Kelly asked Trump what his thoughts were on only two candidates confirming for his debate. He told Kelly, "we're not seeing a lot of courage here are we?" Trump continued, "not lots of courage, these Republicans are supposed to be brave."
