All you can do is present your case.

Everyone has an instant dictionary, thesaurus, encyclopedias, published articles, books, discussions, debates, etc....at their fingertips when arguing online.

You don't have to know anything about anything and can become an instant expert.

Need an article to defend your position.....Google and voila!!  The instant "I told you so" without doing anything.

What I find funny is that most people don't even read the articles they put forth as a defense of their position.....as long as the header supports what they're saying that's good enough....the rest is just details LOL.

Thanks you Man of Steel. Truer words (every word actually) were never spoken. Can always spot the mis-informed (OK..stupid) usually right away. So why waste time going back and forth endlessly.

Some even have years worth of copy and paste jobs from nonsense fundamentalist religious websites saved up! LOL

Directed at me I assume?  LOL!!  That's fine.

I rarely claim anything I post as original.  Certainly I have my own thoughts, but I usually find confirmation and/or correction in them from established thinkers and writers.  I also rarely copy and paste directly or post hyperlinks.  I read and study materials and put things in my own words and blend my own thoughts into them.

About the only source I copy and paste directly from is the bible.

I also rarely copy and paste directly or post hyperlinks.

I have a ton of material I draw from all the time....cut and paste....cut and paste....over and over...same objections, different folks.

And the material I cut and paste from is my history of posts that I wrote.

And the reason I draw from it all the time is I've already answered the same questions dozens of times.

Not exactly.

There are things called Facts, Evidence, Empirical Data and Primary Sources, Scientific Consensus.  Not every "article" is equal or based in fact.

Your post actually is worthless in that all it does is try to make a false equivalency between an argument based in fact and backed with data versus some made up bullshit based in fiction or faith.

There is no equivalency.

Hope this helps.

This is part of the problem.  You would rather pass off false information with a bias rather than cite an established fact with data backing it.  Better to be "original" than to be correct Right?  Well that does nothing for those in pursuit of truth, fact and knowledge.

Didn't mention a thing about you or direct my post at you TA.

I also noted that most post articles without reading them first (in order to better verify things).

You don't like my words because I believe in God.

And yet, more problems that lead to shit thinking.

In psychology and cognitive science, confirmation bias (or confirmatory bias) is a tendency to search for or interpret information in a way that confirms one's preconceptions, leading to statistical errors.

TA if you want to copy and paste stuff go right ahead.  I truly don't care.

I like to confirm things based upon a consensus of expert opinion which are grounded in facts and evidence.   If that conclusion agrees with mine then great.   If my opinion conflicts then I'll reevaluate my conclusion and shift it as appropriate.

What I don't do is take another's work and play it off as my own or pretend I'm an expert on a topic because I'm proficient at performing google searches.

"The backfire effect- when we run into evidence contradicting an existing belief we already have, instead of changing our belief, we exaggerate it, we believe it more."

Well, there you have it. People think arguments are pissing contests and get defensive.
