What the fuck are people doing past the tenth hour? Is there even any quality work being done at that point?

Its the Law of Diminishing Return (as one input variable is increased, there is a point at which the marginal increase in output begins to decrease). Take, for example, studying for exam. You can study for X amount of hours, but at some point, after X hours, it doesnt matter. Your brain is not absorbing the information and youre not learning anything. Its best to take a break, instead of continuing to study. I'd imagine the same thing happens to people who perform any task, work included. In their minds, they are accomplishing more. But after a certain amount of time, its just not effective.

I seriously couldnt even imagine that . I put in a few 60 hour wks maybe even a few 65 hour . 6 day work wks. I had no life, came home from work showerd, maybe ate dinner then strait to bed. Girlfriend at the time freakin hated it. Also gym was not even a possibility.  Yeah i had some sweet coin for xmas gifts that year but over all was not worth it. My body felt totally worn down mentally and physically

If it's a factory job or some kind of mid to low level job it's just not worth it IMO.  Trading chunks of your life for just a little more cash.  The overtime is better used working on creative ways to make money or actually enjoying life.

Big difference working 80+ hours for an employer vs 80+ hours working for yourself.

I don't do 80+ hours but work 4x 11 hour days then have 4 days off my main job were I work renovating my house so most weeks it's 65-70, to be honest you just get used to it, normally you don't feel tired when your busy only when you wind down, still find time to train, spend time with kids, post on getbig ect

I've done more than my fair share of 12 hr shifts, did a 4 month spell on nightshift with no nights off, used to come home, have breakfast go and train then bed... Pure robot, but you get used to it...

We didn't work every single hr, but you get conditioned to it and you actualy become restless when your not doing it and count the money you've missed when your not there.

I doubled my salary  every year for the past 6 yr doing this, luckily enough my new job allows me to earn as much doing 41 hrs, but as I more or less work for my self its more like 4/5 hrs tops per day.

the only people who get something productive out of working 80 hours is the people who cant work less because they love their job. Mainly entrepreneurs.

I've done it before. It is easy to do if you're single and love your career. Yes you're productive, all caffeine and brain food. IMO couldn't do it now, leaves you no time for a relationship. You have to have a REALLY understanding female.

Fitter/engineer... My basic salary was shit, you relied on overtime to make it up, which us what they wanted so they had coverage when they needed it with people with the right skillset, which was few and far between.

I know as a money man you wouldn't dream of getting dirty for £12 an hr down the docks

If you're a salaried employee (not hourly) working more than 50 hours a week, you're a total fucking moron.

Using google owners is a bad example.  A lot of their job is just attending meetings, telling people what to do, or approving things.

Its much different than a medical doctor having to do surgery. Trust me, you don't want someone doing surgery on you who has been working 60+ hours a week. You don't want an engineer building a bridge who has worked 60+ hours a week. Again, the Law of Diminishing Return. Research is quite clear on job effectiveness and amount of hours work. With that much overload, and with such a delicate job, they're bound to eventually make a mistake. You don't want a doctor working on your brain who is overworked. So, yes, it definitely depends what work you do.

Dunno about the states, but uk jnr docs and nurses work upto 80 a week regularly... It depends on job culture and what's expected

No bridges were ever built working flat weeks that's for sure

Nurses in America work 30-40 hours per week, but its usually over a 3-day period.

You may work a lot as a doctor, but youre also not conducting 60+ hours a week of straight surgery. Its just not physically or mentally possible. Doing that much surgery, youre bound to make a mistake, and youre not as a productive. I suspect most doctors are doing a mixture of jobs that require "less" brain power. No doctor is scheduling that much surgery in 1 week.

As for bridges, well, most workers in America are not working 60+ hours per week, unless they are getting over time. Most people I know who are construction workers, work an average 40 hours per week, maybe 50.

I have a retail shop. I can work in it for 8 hours then I get in the car and deliver to people who can't make it in or couldn't make it during opening hours, business gained through social media or text/calls. I have done 16 hours straight, then similar hours the next day and days on end, yes it's worth it. Doing it in a normal salary job probably is a push but some people want the money more than others.

Like when Goku trained in the time chamber for a year and then took a break while Vegeta trained there for 2 years and still was behind Goku.
