For me it's a time thing. I have a bucket of grilled chicken in my fridge. The time to kill a protein shake is like 5 seconds. The time to choke down a chicken breast is more like 5 minutes...and the fucking dogs are always hanging around like a bunch of Mafiosi looking for their "cut"

It's convenient and one of the best protein sources out there plus many of us don't feel like spending half the day chewing on shit. I'm not going to be one of those pudwhackers eating out of Tupperware every 3 hours.

I get my protein powder (whey isolate, casein, and vegan protein from grains - I don't drink the vegan one though) for free, so I go through quite a bit of it since its just cheaper that way.
I trust the company I get it from, especially since I work for them part time haha. I never get stomach issues, bloating, etc... If I did, I'd just sell what they send me, but so far so good!
I guess unless you're having digestion issues with it, or some sort of allergic reaction I don't see why you couldn't save a few bucks and drink a shake and have a handful of almonds instead of chicken breast (which is pricey up here in Canada).

great idea
They have amazing iron will to resist the ease of drinking a shake and shouldering the task of eating their protein
The dedication of meal prep for the week
Carrying the tupperwares and stopping what they're doing just to eat their meal
Lol the foolish clueless poor souls who drink their protein shakes
Burn the shake drinkers at the stake

What's been strange for me is that I have slowly become lactose intolerant.   Never had a problem digesting lactose in protein powders, cheese, milk, cottage cheese before.   But now that I'm in my 40's, it's becoming a bigger problem with each passing year.   Always thought lactose intolerance was something you're born with.  Didn't think it's something you can get later on in life like that.  Strange.

I recently read somewhere that its very common for people to develop a lactose intolerance later in life. The article also talked about different races developing at different rates and some having a very low chance of developing it at all. I think it said Caucasians were very likely to develop a lactose intolerance later in life.

After a quick google search I saw this:
Quote
But as you get older, your lactase levels can start to decline, which means there’s nothing stopping the lactose you consume from going to your colon undigested, where bacteria break the sugars down and create excess gas and fluid in the process.

Just talking to a friend last night who works for Optimum Nutrition.  He let me know that while the "industry" isn't really talking about it, wholesale whey prices have dropped a buttload after rising for a long period of time.  You can buy WPC80 for about $1.50/lb if you buy by the truck.  WPI90 is just a small amount more.   They were very quick to raise the prices through the roof when Whey prices skyrocketed but don't expect them to lower them much any time soon or to talk about it.   Guess it goes along with airlines not lowering prices despite huge drops in fuel cost.

You are way off...its about 24 cents a pound

Possible, but it would have had to drop considerably even more since December.
