“I’m a doctor. I have patients that are dying — I have to go,” Dr. Rachel Wellner allegedly said as she was busted for reckless endangerment, leaving the scene, resisting arrest and reckless driving.
“I’m the hero and the cops are not. I don’t accept the summons,” she added.
The outrageous statements were read at Wellner's arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court by prosecutor Julia Sear.
“Help! The police are assaulting me,” the fired-up physician added.Wellner, 40, was arrested in the bizarre incident at W. 55th St. and 10th Ave. about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
The NYPD said Wellner hit a police officer on W. 55th St. and Eighth Ave. after the cop and his partner left a summons on her double-parked car at 11 a.m.
Police Officer Niguel Vega was knocked over as Wellner tried to drive away with her door open, refusing to accept a summons.
A second police unit saw what happened and pursued her vehicle, stopping it on W. 53rd St. between Ninth and 10th Aves.
Still wearing green scrubs as she was led from the Midtown North stationhouse, a disheveled Wellner said she was yanked from her car and “brutalized” by cops.
She was released on her own recognizance at her arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court.
Wellner's lawyer Alan Futerfas described his client as a noted doctor who operates on patients daily.
