The Sandow was his...better thigh separation, better midsection, displaying more back detail than coleman. How the hell did Flex get 2nd over this guy

No one has ever carried 250lbs+ as aesthetically as Cormier did in '99....you can see Coleman's distended belly in the background...

It was the mystique of Flex Wheeler that is why. I'm glad Flex didn't win with all the Synthol in his delts. And had the nerve to make a little protest of Ronnie winning.

I agree, chris was better than Flex that day. Can you only imagine how pissed Flex would have been if he got 3rd. He thought he shoudl have won, ha.

I am probably the biggest Cormier fan (outside his weed dealer) and sadly enough I have to agree with S. Ray, this was his peak.

aside from ab/thigh pose ronnie's got'em all beat. flex deserved 2nd. cormier did have a good build though, no arguement there.

Cormier looks like a really heavy Bob Paris , he was on for that show and like Shawn said that was as good as it gets for him , such a shame , he perfect blend of size shape & aesthetics , I'm a huge Flex fan but he was not better than Chris and Chris could have very easily won but Ronnie had momentum .

Agree that Chris got screwed - he should have easily beaten Flex. I think Flex should have even lost to Levrone that year - flex was soft and oily in 1999.

Chris should have been second behind Ronnie, who was in great shape for that show. Had Ronnie been off, Chris could have won. But, Ronnie was in good shape and pre-gut at that point in this career - he even has good abs at that contest! (at least on my video tape).

Exactly. From the front, you could have made a case of it being reasonably close between Ronnie and Chris, with Chris having a nice shape/structure while Ronnie having a Freakier look due to his ridiculous taper and his freaky bodyparts. But once they turned around, it was 'lights out, game over' for everyone else. Dorian, who emceed that show, himself remarked 'Ronnie looks like a cartoon character'.

Between Chris and Flex, it was touch and go. Between Ronnie and Chris/Flex/everyone else, it was night and day. And ND, if anyone placed high due to 'having momentum built up before the show', it was more so Flex than it was Ronnie.

Pre-gut? LOL...Ronnie was already well into the first trimester. You can see him and his bloated gut in the picture of Cormier standing relaxed

cormier destroyed flex there, if ronald had been anything less that his career best shape cormier would have won it easily.
i think bodybuilding reached its pinnacle in 99.

Cormier is a great bodybuilder and a cool guy. It's going to be interesting to see what he'll lokk like when Dorian is through with him (if indeed they are training together at temple gym). It's not as tho Chris needs to bring up any lagging bodyparts, he just needs to nail his conditioning. The Big Diesel had that aspect pretty much figured out by '91 so he should be a big help

WE HAVENT SEEN THE LAST OF CORMIER YET!
