So whos going to pay her $55m?
The guy who filmed her?

Just seen the Hotel has been made 49% liable, so thats half the amount gone already, they will appeal and she will very likely end up with fuck all.

Exactly. Judgements like this don't mean she will ever see the money,  kinda like Ron Goldman's parents getting money from OJ.

Marriott themselves don't pay, their insurance company does.  It's also a Franchise hotel operation, isn't it?

How was the hotel liable?

they, seemingly and knowingly, placed the alleged 'stalker' beside her room as he requested.  But that being part of their 'policy' it makes the hotel chain liable

Because she stayed there.  Only in America.  Surprised she didn't sue the video camera company for making something that can record and the Internets for having the videos available and IE/Mozilla and Chrome for allowing people to browse the webs and download the video.  She should also sue God for giving us eyes that allowed us to watch the video.

I think I read it's a privately owned Marriott (maybe the college owns it). So the actual corporation wasn't responsible, outside of their policies.

Insurance company is unlikely to pay out for them being found guilty of negligence.

guanafuckingteed.  If it was a black sideline reporter she'd probably get a kit kat paid to her.

Would never happen.  Nobody wanna see them nekid.

Seriously thought that is some fuzzy worthless footage of Erin right there.  In no way worth 55 million.

Everyone knows she made millions on this "traumatic incident" already.

The insurance is also there for the victims of negligence.  Just like a drunk driver who gets behind the wheel and ends up taking another life. The insurance compensates the victim, despite negligence of the driver.  Or how a negligent chef can end up causing food poisoning and death to the diners.  The insurance compensates the victims, despite the negligence of the chef.  Or how if I don't shovel my sidewalk in the winter, and the mailman slips and breaks his neck.  Once again, my home insurance compensates victims of my negligence.  That's how it works.

You give them your money.  Then they give their money when someone makes a claim.  Sometimes, maybe, when they don't feel like inventing an excuse to keep it all, when they have enough left to pay out after bribing legislators to codify their profits.  If they paid out more than they took in, they'd be out of business.  That is how it 'works.'

They'll pay out for negligence but not for intentional acts.

Award is excessive I guess. Judge can give Andrews option of decreasing the amount or order a new trial. If not, appeal.

Lol, but really why put a creeper next to a woman just because he requested it.  That should have put them on alert. Lol.

Do you really think the guy said, "I need the room next to Andrews because I plan on sneaking in undetected" or did he say something like "Is room 'xyz' available? I really like the view there."

We should not have a system where 55million dollars is awarded to any single person.  Wonder how much the lawyers made on that

I'm not sure what was said I haven't kept up with this lame case - if she were hot maybe.

But the point is that if he requested a room by a specific woman, used her name, used her description, etc. - then this should have put the hotel on notice that this could put her in danger in some form or fashion based on what a prudent person would do in the same or similar circumstance.

Also, in this case the hotel is an innkeeper - meaning that they owe people an even greater duty of care to safeguard them. And basic property laws don't allow landlords to give out information of tenants and hotels are no different (he would only know her hotel room number after either asking the hotel or somehow getting access inside the hotel and seeing her enter the room, either way they should not give a person access or information) so they shouldn't have given into his request that he have a room by "the blonde woman" or "erin andrews - cause I'm a fan."

We should not have a system where 55million dollars is awarded to any single person.  Wonder how much the lawyers made on that

I disagree. We have this justice system so we deter behavior by individuals that do wrong. Now this hotel and every other hotel will know that they better not screw up and put a pervert that requests to be next to a room that has a specific individual in that room.  This time it was a woman - next time it could be an underage innocent girl.
If the court doesn't award punitive damages then behavior would not be dettered and people would act like BLM protestors and do things without caring about the consequences.
