MMA fans and boxing
« on: March 19, 2016, 11:10:40 AM »
Theres a topic going round on facbook at the moment laughing at how James Toney did in the UFC. So many MMA fans calling boxers pussies who hit each other with sissy gloves. Does anyone here think that? I invite you to get punched by a boxing glove worn by a welterweight never mind a heavyweight. Then tell me how you feel.

Boxing is out the window. They can't handle real fighting

That wasn't the question. Do you think you could take a full on punch from a glove wearing pro boxer? Or like so many MMA fans do you think youd stand there laughing as this pillow tickles you?

Boxing is a brutal sport. The top MMA guys would get beat in the boxing ring by journey men. The glove is to protect the hand and not the guys face. It compresses hard with a punch.

Having said that about boxing, it is a sport. In the real world it's an incomplete martial art. In the octagon elite boxers like Mayweather would be beaten very quickly by someone like Frankie Edgar.  Most boxers have no take down defense and no defense against submissions.

In the street if a boxer gets the quick knockout he will come out on top but against a grappler with a submission game it's lights out if it goes into a clinch.

I competed in 5 boxing matches and I have trained in jiu-jitsu.  I have come to realize I am much better skilled with a firearm having carried one for 33 years.

Boxing is by far the tougher sport in terms of wear and tear. One just needs to look at the death rates for the sport, plus the general state of many fighters after they leave the ring. Perhaps only football comes close to the damage. Look up Bobby Chacon, Gerald McClellan, Jerry Quarrey, Meldrick Taylor, Leon Spinks, Joe Frazier, etc...., and watch the early interviews, then look at ones later in life. No comparison.

Boxing and Grappling have been around for years. Do you really think that all this "Modern" MMA fighting is new? I have Boxed and have a Judo Background and i know the value off both but also the "giving" or JU is in Aiki. Look into the History. Study an "external" system and then an "Internal" system.

Its been going for ages and still hasn't realy moved on, its biggest problem is the fighters are still percieved to be trash, and alot of sports fans get bored of 'ground game'.
The stand up can be boring as the fighters are weary of being took down.

well not like boxers ever been percieved to be the smartest out of the bunch is it?

In alot of European countries MMA is now alot bigger than boxing. Like I said, we'll see.

Give you right on the technical spectrum but not on the individual Fighters mentality. Nothing to do with being stupid.

It's pointless to compare the two - MMA fighter would win with MMA rules and boxer would win with boxing rules. What's shifting here now is how people perceive the sports. Old people are not going to change their opinion, their mind is set. But younger people are going to look at boxing and ask how come the guy is not doing this or that. Certain things being not allowed is not going to make sense to them. They'll think MMA is "real" fighting and boxing is some weird limited fighting that doesn't look like an actual fight. Yes, boxing is worse for your brain and more people die. MMA looks more shocking because of the cuts, bleeding and broken bones and that looks like a "real" fight to people. MMA will take over, but it'll take decades.

Jui Jitsu (Traditional) -Judo,Aikido.Kendo,BJJ. The Chinese systems influenced the Japanese too. I think some of you younger guys should look into the origins of "Budo".

It makes me laugh whenever people assume there is no grappling in boxing. All inside fighting involves grappling and grabbing. If you think boxers are not grappling when they get close and grab you just don't know boxing.
