Why'd you quit bbing? Life circumstances or...?
It's hard. Very hard. Everyone is born with a certain body type. It's literally a full time job trying to change and maintain a body you were just never meant to have. In other sports, like Jiu-Jitsu, you train and then it's over for the day. With bbing it never ends. You look at eating in a whole different way. What you eat it has to serve a specific purpose. You are bulking, cutting.... Remember when Jay said he gets no pleasure in eating? That's because for a bber eating is part of the job. Sleep is part of the job. It's work. All work. Everything you do has some kind of effect on your body. It never ends, everything becomes part of the job and the returns are comparably meager for most.
And then there's the health issue. Carrying a lot of muscle is just not healthy. Your heart acts more like an organ and doesn't get stronger with use. You can improve your cardiovascular system: blood vessels, veins, capillaries... but your heart and lung capacity are relatively fixed. They don't grow bigger and stronger. And more muscle means more work for you heart.
And this is not even taking into account anabolics which are necessary if you ever hope to exceed your natural limit which is what true bbing is about.
Resistance training is the best form of training your body and improve physical health and performance. But Body building is extremely hard and an all consuming endeavor and requires a huge investment in both time and money to be even a successful recreational bber. You really has to love it. Really, really love it. For most, it's just not worth the commitment and investment.
I train three times a week, keep in great shape, not killing myself, and still have time to enjoy other things in life.
