A metal fan like few would believe.

This group is an engineered gimmick. It's interesting, but not of lasting importance.

Sounds like mallcore sorta riffing, like Slipknot or something. Heavy, but fuck if I will call that metal.

It started off on the right path.....and then the vocals happened.

Nice chunky studio production on drums/guitar.

The guitarist Satchel, used to play with Rob Halfords Fight band. The album War Of Words is great.

Cool.  What I really like about these guys is that they are talented musicians.  It's like Spinal Tap - they can only pull the whole thing off because you can tell they actually know how to play...  8)

Russ Parish. Been around the Sunset scene forever. A GIT dude. Paul Gilbert was one of his instructors, I believe.

Very accomplished player.

Metal is a male dominated genre, the women are on the wrong side of the stage (and even that is a rarity). Yes, I'm very misogynistic.

You're not really paying attention. Or not a truly exploratory/dedicated fan.

The world of music that falls under the umbrella of heavy metal has become vast. The development and fleshing out of substyles and the insane improvement in the technical proficiencies of the players has spun far, far beyond where it was even as recently as 10 years ago.

(Some strains of extreme metal have become homes to some of the very greatest instrumentalists in all of music, period. Where guitar playing experienced an epoch of sorts in the '80s, metal drumming has done during these past 20-odd years. Some of the performances are at the very cutting edge of what is thought to be possible.)

Metal sucked ass for most of the '90s, and in many ways Pantera had a lot to do with that, because they spawned a lot of imitators once they released Cowboys from Hell.

Most people (including the band themselves) like to forget that Pantera was a cheesy ass glam metal band in the '80s, and released four albums before CFH.

Imitators? Perhaps in recorded tones and a proliferation of the stutter riffs that came to be found in nu metal, metalcore, etc., but no one band really carried on Pantera's sound.

Despite the look, a majority of the material on those first four records was '80s-style straight heavy metal.
