But there are still many strength and conditioning coaches who implement resistant bands into their workouts. Obviously, they have some utility.

I did a ten week program with a trainer at a strongman gym about 6 years ago to rehab a lower ab pull / hamstring tear.
He used bands and a lot of rest/pause techniques. I never had so much gains on my squat. In addition, 1 rep max on bench was 100 lbs higher than any weight we used in the 10 week period.
It might be gimmicky with drug fueled bodybuilding, but I think with strength and conditioning they have their merit.
