'Predator' actor Sonny Landham dead at 76

NEW YORK — Sonny Landham, the muscular action-movie actor who co-starred in "Predator" and "48 Hrs," has died. He was 76.

Landham's sister, Dawn Boehler, said the actor died from congestive heart failure Thursday at a Lexington, Kentucky, hospital. Landham was a brawny, deep-voiced actor and stunt man who played a bit part in Walter Hill's 1979 street-gang thriller "The Warriors" before the director cast him as the trigger-happy criminal Billy Bear in 1982's "48 Hrs."

Landham, who was part Cherokee and Seminole, was perhaps most known for playing the Native American tracker Billy Sole in the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger film "Predator."

Landham entered the movie business after working in pornography in the '70s. Later in life, he attempted brief and unsuccessful political campaigns.

He's survived by his son, William, and daughter, Priscilla.

Agreed. The scene in which Harrigan kills the one Hunter, then was surrounded by a bunch of them decloaking was epic

my favorite movie of all time... i can recite every word to film when its played... all my ex gf's used to get pissed when i played it over and over...still one of my favs...reminds me...im gonna watch it tommorrow with my new GF! no lie lol!

According to director John McTiernan, the studio was required to hire a bodyguard to follow Landham around during filming - something to do with insurance, I think.
Anyway, the bodyguard's job wasn't to protect Sonny; it was to protect OTHER people from Sonny. He had well-known reputation back then.

Van Damme was the first choice, but it didn't work out.

Also, the first Predator suit was supposedly way different.

The director absolutely hated it.

So a new suit was ordered. They fired the first designer(s) and put it in the hands of the late, great FX master Stan Winston who designed and delivered the now iconic Predator design.
