smh at all you "marks"    (see what I did there)

lets go back to, I think, 1996 (or was it 95) when shawn Micheals did his infamous "I lost my smile" speech

now- at the time he LEGIT was considering hanging up his boots but in reality he knew that it was all a work that would get him off the road and lead to a "I'm coming back stronger than ever" angle

the thing is we all knew in the back of our heads that this was all a angle because pro wrestling is a work

we never questioned that he was gonna go into total retirement......"yeah- he's crying but come on---this is pro wrestling and this is so part of a storyline"

fast forward 20 some odd years later

Conor McGregor is a fighter in a REAL SPORT (a Real Sport that so doesn't borrow storylines from pro wrestling  ::) )

Conor does a somewhat (again- somewhat) version of the "I lost my smile"/"I'm gonna retire while i'm in my prime like shawn did" angle

Dana even tweets out that he is off there biggest card of the year (which is still months away, mind you)....UFC 200 is far enough away that Conor can still get in shape for a fight while he's retired  ;)

"Yeah- but he's really retired because MMA is a real sport not like that phony rasstling"

hmmm...yes-it's a real sport.......while some fights are suspect in recent years (shamrock vs....well, shamrock vs anyone) You're not gonna hear me spout off some shit about MMA being a work

however- they DO use Pro wrestling angles and they can get away with it because no body will ever question the use of old pro wrestling angles because MMA is real and Pro wrestling is teh fak3

long story short---this angle is all a work that Dana is even involved in and nobody will question it being a work because MMA is a "real" and MMA fans are too blinded by the realness that they don't see that this is a old pro wrestling angle

Dr Evil speaks

Dana on The Herd:
VIDEO (courtesy of /u/crispycornpops): https://streamable.com/iv9i

We try and make exceptions and work around these alpha male and female personalities, but the one thing they aren't exempt from is promoting the fight. Everybody, Ali, Tyson, everybody has to promote their fight.
Our relationship isn't damaged. Conor was making a lot of money for this fight. It's not like I'm asking him to come and do something the others aren't, it's not like it's 3 weeks before the fight, it's 3 months.

He's actually a really reasonable guy, so him freaking out, this is weird.

It's not a money issue. The hacks online make stuff up for clicks. This was never, ever about money. Conor is very happy with the money he makes. He's a stand up guy, he's never agreed a deal and then come back for more cash. He's not that type of person.

I don't think he's retiring, and I think he'll fight for us within the next year.
Conor needs to clear up the retirement decision fast, because that will make the Edgar-Aldo title match for the vacant title. Not stripping him yet.

I'm not mad, not even a little. It's UFC 200, it's a massive event. Plenty of people want to be on this card. I'm not mad at all.
Dunno when I'll talk to Conor again, we'll see how it plays out. I'm not mad at him, though. The show will roll on.
If he called me after this interview, then yeah! He can be on UFC 200. He has to be here and shoot this commercial.

We're spending $10m on promotion. You can't not do it.
The phone call wasn't combative. I was talking to his manager, and they were asking to move the promotion all back to May. We can't do it, the money is in motion.

The fans care about the fights, and thats all they should care about. But everyone knows this has happened only once before, and that was Nick Diaz, and we pulled him from that fight.
We do give Conor a lot of leeway. He delivers, but he wasn't planning on doing so this weekend, so I had to pull him.

---------

Not even a little mad? Interesting. The guy wreaks the 200 card and probably cost the company money in terms of promotion and he's not even a little mad?

C'mon son

Even more amazing is the guy is supposed to be drug free and he's still that hideous! Imagine being straight edge or whatever the fuck and you still look like you've spent the last decade injecting heroin directly into your eye sockets. I hope the skanky looking cunt gets knocked spark out in brutal fashion in his first UFC fight.

I suspect Conor is doing because he wants to fight in Madison Square Garden, where the Fertittas don't have control of the fight business.

I am just trying to do my job and fight here.
I am paid to fight. I am not yet paid to promote.
I have become lost in the game of promotion and forgot about the art of fighting.
There comes a time when you need to stop handing out flyers and get back to the damn shop.
50 world tours, 200 press conferences, 1 million interviews, 2 million photo shoots, and at the end of it all I'm left looking down the barrel of a lens, staring defeat in the face, thinking of nothing but my incorrect fight preparation. And the many distractions that led to this.
Nothing else was going through my mind.
It is time to go back and live the life that got me this life.
Sitting in a car on the way to some dump in Conneticut or somewhere, to speak to Tim and Suzie on the nobody gives a fuck morning show did not get me this life.
Talking to some lady that deep down doesn't give a fuck about what I'm doing, but just wants some sound bites so she can maybe get her little tight ass a nice raise, and I'm cool with that too, I've been giving you all raises. But I need to focus on me now.
I'm coming for my revenge here.
I flew an entire team to Portugal and to Iceland to make my adjustments in preparation and fix my errors I made with the weight and the cardio prep.
With the right adjustments and the right focus, I will finish what I started in that last fight.
I will not do this if I am back on the road handing out flyers again.
I will always play the game and play it better than anybody, but just for this one, where I am coming off a loss, I asked for some leeway where I can just train and focus. I did not shut down all media requests. I simply wanted a slight adjustment.
But it was denied.
There had been 10 million dollars allocated for the promotion of this event is what they told me.
So as a gesture of good will, I went and not only saved that 10 million dollars in promotion money, I then went and tripled it for them.
And all with one tweet.
Keep that 10 mill to promote the other bums that need it. My shows are good.
I must isolate myself now.
I am facing a taller, longer and heavier man. I need to prepare correctly this time.
I can not dance for you this time.
It is time for the other monkeys to dance. I've danced us all the way here.
Nate's little mush head looks good up on that stage these days. Stuff him in front of the camera for it.
He came in with no shit to do that last one. I'd already done press conferences, interviews and shot the ads before RDA pulled out.
Maybe I'll hit Cabo this time and skull some shots pre-fight with no obligation.
I'm doing what I need for me now.
It is time to be selfish with my training again. It is the only way.
I feel the $400million I have generated for the company in my last three events, all inside 8 months, is enough to get me this slight leeway.
I am still ready to go for UFC 200.
I will offer, like I already did, to fly to New York for the big press conference that was scheduled, and then I will go back into training. With no distractions.
If this is not enough or they feel I have not deserved to sit this promotion run out this one time, well then I don't know what to say.
For the record also -
For USADA and for the UFC and my contract stipulations -
I AM NOT RETIRED.

I believe this goes two ways as well. The UFC gave him everything he has asked for. No other fighter in the history of the promotion has gotten the treatment he has. The reason he has gotten the paycheques he has is due to promotion. He understands this. People tune in to watch and hear him. He has brought a number of fans that never followed the UFC or MMA because of his relentless self promotion. The media will be largely focused on him had he made his appearance to promote the fight and that's good for the PPV numbers as well as building his brand further. I get that media tours are gruelling but it can't be as bad as the worldwide tour he did to promote the Aldo fight. Yes it's a distraction but feeding the media machine and the hype train is part and parcel of the game. Actors and singers probably don't want to fly from city to city doing media tours whenever the have their movie/album coming out and talk to some random interviewer over and over again. What if Arnold said he's famous enough so there's no point in him doing late night shows because people will watch his movie anyway. He still gets out there and does his part.

It's my party and I'll cry if I want to. Sorry Connor but part of your payment is for promotion.

The UFC won't budge on their decision to pull Conor McGregor from UFC 200 despite the Irishman's lengthy Facebook statement.

That's according to TMZ, who reported earlier today that the promotion offered to fly McGregor to every promotional location on a private jet.

"Not only did UFC offer to fly Conor to every destination on a top-of-the-line private jet ... but also offered to ship out every single piece of his gym equipment from Iceland to Vegas for this weekend's media event so there wouldn't be a kink in Conor's training.  We're told McGregor was told his gym would be set up identically to his Iceland training center and it would all be ready to go the second he stepped off the plane. Still, McGregor refused to budge -- and our sources tell us Conor was "shocked" when he was told the media obligations in Vegas were mandatory."

-----------

jeez if this is true the UFC is really going overboard for this guy's accommodations.

Shocked at his mandatory obligations? - yeah right. It's been confirmed that the contracts include the mandatory media obligations. It shouldn't be surprising to him at all. He's been doing this long enough. How many other fighters (apart from Ronda)get offers for private jets and private gyms?  Contracts are signed before the fights are officially announced so everyone knows what to expect and the roles they are expected to play.

Oh..and Connor is not trying to duck Diaz. If he was he wouldn't have asked for a rematch in the first place. Again..HE asked for the rematch. The UFC didn't force it on him.

I'am relieved to learn that Getbig's own -Ron Avi will be spearheading the negotiation process between the UFC and Connor. He WILL bring balance back to the Force.

it is not McGregor's fights that made him millions, it is his promotions.  his shit talking made him popular. he is a great fighter, but look at guys like TJ and Aldo.  they were champs, and no one wanted to see them. the everyday parttime  fight fan never heard of these guys.  they fight as good as conor, they don't promote like him. promotion is where his money comes from.
