The Dark Tower Movie (update: first Matthew McConahoozle set pics)

Apparently shooting for pt 1 started in Cape Town last week. I'm excited for this. This is my absolute favorite book series and I can't believe it's finally actually being made. From the sound of things, they are likely going to scale back a lot from the books and it most likely won't be split into 7 parts.

Idris Elba plays Roland, and he managed to squeeze this in between playing Heimdall  in Thor and possibly being the new James Bond.    Some set pics were released:


Matthew McConahoozle plays The Man In Black. No pics have been released yet. I'm sure some people are already complaing about PC casting, but the movie's shooting. This is the cast.  I actually think this looks like a really strong cast. I can't wait for this.

Why do you think a black guy is wrong for this movie?
Most Cowboys were black or Mexican in real life. Plus, there is nothing in the story that prevents the gunslinger from being black. This isn't fantastic four, get over your hate bitch. You're making us whites look bad.

They could never film the book as it's written, so changes were inevitable. And as much as I love this series, some healthy editing won't destroy it, IMO. Quite frankly, I wouldn't be upset with an entirely different ending. Allegedly, they are aiming for a trilogy, and if that is the case, I don''t really mind too much. King has always been really open to loose interpretations of his work, anyway.

2 or 3 years ago, the producers shopped around a really ambitious package that  was something like 4 or 5 movies with a tv show running concurrently. The studio accepted but then backed out and the producers shopped around a more streamlined deal. Not a lot has been made public, but people are speculating it'll be a trilogy with a lot cut out.  In the past, King's had movie versions of his work re-made to be truer to his original stories, so I would not be surprised if he tries to bring a more full-featured television series out after the movies.  The whole thing would probably work better as a tv series.  

And I completely empathize with your father. I was pretty ticked off over that ending for a few days. I've read some King interviews where he talks about how he doesn't approach stories with endpoints in mind, so  I kind of feel the conclusion showcased that.

i hope they turn the talis man into a miniseries.   that was the very first book i read by king,  my dad was a huge fan of king for many years.

he got me into king.     i just couldnt believe  he ended his opus  in the dark tower they way he did.  i bought that last book the very first
