Having dark skin is associated with being poorer, since poorer people often have to work outside in the sun, such as street vendors and farmers.

Also, there ghosts are supposedly dark and not white coloured.

For clothes, they are also say you can look better in more colours with lighter skin.

Though, some Japanese and Korean women like the tanned look too.

My experience is with Thailand, most foreigners like darker skin, so its win-win, the local guys don't think they're attractive, even though they are beautiful, but dark. They associate dark skin with being from the jungle or Cambodia or Laos which are used as insult words.

A Chinese detergent commercial showing a black man stuffed into a washing machine and transformed into a fair-skinned Asian has provoked outrage this week, but the company behind the clip says foreign critics are "too sensitive".

The commercial for the Qiaobi brand — which has gone viral in the West —shows a black man whistling and winking at a young Chinese woman, who calls him over, puts a detergent packet into his mouth, and forces him head-first into a washing machine.

She sits on the lid while the man shrieks.

Moments later an Asian man emerges in clean clothes, and the woman grins.

"We meant nothing but to promote the product, and we had never thought about the issue of racism," a spokesman for the Leishang cosmetics company, which produces the detergent, told China's Global Times.
"The foreign media might be too sensitive about the ad,"he added.

The spokesman said a shorter version was broadcast in China, which did not feature the black actor, and he had no idea how the full-length clip ended up online.

I actually sell their products.  They also operate by Sepgo.  Great stuff and the detergent really works.  You have to understand that Asians have a weird outlook on black people and other races.  They consider us exotic so you get a mix of admiration and mockery.  Its better than a white person as they generally discriminate against them much more....maybe because of that whole atomic bomb thing. ;D
