The Best Sellers Of All Time
« on: May 31, 2016, 11:59:36 AM »
1 - Ricky Morton
2 - Ricky Steamboat
3 - Mr Wrestling II
4 - Tommy Rich
5 - Rocky King

For the CTers, why are the letters "R", "M", and "Y" so prominent in the people that could sell the best?

Every now and again someone today will sell so well that I just get amazed. Ziggler comes to mind really, but there are others. A good sell job impresses me more than being over sometimes.

Hate to say it, but Bret Hart was a good seller as well.

Randy Savage had that unique way of selling where he cupped the back of his head.

Kris Kanyon wrote in his book the worst seller of all time was Ernest Miller.   His "selling" resembled a drunken man trying to shoo bees away from his face.  Drop Kick!   Hits the mat, comes up fanning the air in front of his face.  Weak punch...  shoo bees shoo!  Figure four leglock!!  Here comes the bees!!!!

Don't forget Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson.

Those guys made a living off selling.

Flair's selling was pretty predictable.  Tully was good though.

Ziggler can sell in a thousand different ways that is totally believable.

LMAO!!!

That's because Ernie didn't have a good grasp on, or aptitude for the business when he broke in. He simply couldn't wrap his mind around the idea of "selling."

One of the trainers explained it as reacting to your opponents offense, and tried using the example of shooing away attacking bees. Miller was so dense, that he took the analogy literally, and sold EVERYTHING as though bees were attacking him.

A popular rib at the time was to deliver a ball shot to "The Cat" and watch in hysterics as it looked like he was trying to pat out a fire on his crotch.

I remember being very impressed once watching HHH sell after the end of his match. So many guys stop selling as soon as the bell rings, which kind of kills the performance. If you just had your leg, arm, back, etc. severely worked over for half of a match, why would you suddenly be "healed" after rolling out of the ring?

Hunter had just had his leg worked over for about the last ten minutes of the match. He sold it beautifully as he exited the ring and limped all the way up the ramp until he was behind the curtain.

THAT is good selling.

HBK

I always thought there was a lot of similarity in how those two sold.

The Summer Slam match mentioned above was a rib meant to insult/mock Hogan.

was listening to a podcast with Kevin Sullivan. Said if Steamboat had turned heel then flipped to face, he would have been "super over" but being a baby face his whole run may have hurt him.

I took him so serious that I once saw him in a gym when I was a teen in Montreal and would not approach him in case he paid someone to kick me out of the gym lol
